A plant and method for the manufacture of cementitious products, viz. cast concrete roof tiles (T), the plant comprising a mixing station () where the constituents of a cementitious composition, less an air entraining agent, are admixed under atmospheric pressure and further mixed under a partial vacuum of 200 to 340 mBar after the addition of an air entraining agent, the plant also comprising a molding station () where the tiles (T) are cast in a gang-mold () before being cured in a conventional autoclave for up to 10 hours at 45 degrees C. The cured concrete roof tiles (T) are de-molded after curing and conveyed to a surface preparation zone () where a primer coat of a water based epoxy and a surface coating of a water based emulsion paint are applied to at least an upper surface in use of the cast concrete roof tiles (T). The admixed cementitious composition has a Ford Cup flow of between 40 and 60 seconds and a slump test of between 180 and 220 mm. In an alternative method, instead of applying a primer coat, the upper surfaces, in use, of the roof tiles T are subjected to abrasion by grit-blasting to remove a thin layer from the upper surfaces thereby facilitating the subsequent application thereto of a surface coating.

The invention relates to a device and a method for producing a water barrier in unsolidified roof tile preforms. The inventive device comprises a molded piece with a recess as well as a die. The molded piece is disposed above the end of a roof tile perform, whereupon all or part of the rear edge of the roof tile perform is pressed upward by means of the die. There are needed for containers for the transportation and/or for the storage of spent fuel elements inner linings which guarantee a good heat contact to the outer container and have little operating expense. This is attained by placing in the outer container a bottom and a flange, then positioning therebetween and welding thereto a jacket provided with an axial slot and thereby a flexible diameter. The slot is then subsequently likewise covered and welded.

Process for lining a nuclear storage or transportation container

An improved container for transportation or storage of radioactive substances, especially spent nuclear fuel elements, has a cylindrical open-top thick-wall metallic body for shielding gamma radiation. A liner for the container has a top peripheral flange engaged with the bottom of a counterbore in the container open top. A thick gamma-ray shielding cover for the lining is disposed in the counterbore and screw means detachably secure both the lining flange and the cover to the body independently. The body has exterior generally parallel spaced cooling fins transversely intersected by flanges of lesser height to minimize fin cracks extending into the body. Neutron shielding is disposed in the exterior spaces between the fins and the flanges.

Transportation and/or storage containers for radioactive material

An improved cushioning or shock absorbing device attachable to the ends of a generally cylindrical container for transporting or storing radioactive material, especially spent nuclear fuel elements, has a substantially uniform dampening or cushioning characteristic even for different impact directions. The device is cap-shaped, having an annular part with a plug part in the outer end thereof. The annular part includes a strong rigid inner sleeve extending from the open end of the device partly between the two parts. The inner end of the plug part has a sheet metal disc-like inner cover secured to the sleeve for detachment on impact. Both parts are divided into a plurality of interior chambers by sheet metal plates, the chambers being filled with cushioning material. The container is provided with an exterior abutment surface spaced from and opposed to the inner end of the annular part, when the device is installed, so that the annular part is detached on impact and becomes effect to absorb shocks on engagement with the abutment surface.
