A load protection and control apparatus () for protecting and controlling an electrical load connected to the load protection and control apparatus () comprising an overcurrent protection circuit (A) having a power switch () through which the electrical load receives an electrical load current (I) and having a sensor component () connected in series with the power switch () and adapted to generate directly a voltage drop (ΔU) corresponding to the current rise speed of the electrical load current (I) flowing from an input terminal () of the load protection and control apparatus () via the sensor component () and the power switch () to the output terminal () and having a driver circuit () adapted to detect an occurring overcurrent depending on the voltage drop (ΔU) generated by the sensor component () and/or depending on a voltage drop (ΔU) along the power switch () and adapted to switch off said power switch () upon detection of an overcurrent within a switch-off period of less than one millisecond; and/or comprising a power supply control circuit () having a sensor component () adapted to measure at the input terminal () a supply voltage (U) notified to a control unit () of the load protection and control apparatus () adapted to control an electrical power supplied to the electrical load, wherein each input terminal () is configured to establish an electrical connection with a busbar () of a busbar system or with a current carrying wire.

Apparatus for protecting and controlling an electrical load

An apparatus for switching and/or protection of a load connected to said apparatus, said apparatus () comprising: a power switch () through which the connected load receives an electrical current; a sensor component () connected in series with said power switch () and adapted to generate directly an electrical voltage drop corresponding to a current rise speed of the electrical current flowing via the sensor component () and via the power switch () to said load; and a driver circuit () adapted to detect an occurring overcurrent depending on a voltage drop generated by said sensor component () with or without a voltage drop along the power switch () and to switch off said power switch () upon detection of an overcurrent within a switch-off period to protect said power switch () and said load.

Apparatus for switching and protection of a load based on current rise speed

Method for adjusting operation parameters of an electrical device

A hybrid load protection apparatus () comprises a primary power supply path (A) between input terminal and output terminals () and a controllable mechanical switch (A) connected in series with a primary coil (A-) coupled inductively to a secondary coil (A-) providing a voltage, U, corresponding to a current rise speed of the electrical current flowing through the primary path (A). The voltage, U, is applied directly to a driver input (IN) of a first driver circuit (A) to trigger automatically a switch-off of the mechanical switch (A) within a first switch-off period (&#x394;t) to interrupt the primary power supply path (A). A secondary power supply path (B) is provided in parallel to the primary path (A) and having a further coil (B) connected in series with a semiconductor power switch (B). wherein a second driver circuit (B) associated with the secondary path (B) detects an increasing electrical current, I, flowing through the secondary path (B) caused by the interruption of the primary current path (A) on the basis of a voltage drop (&#x394;U) generated by the further coil (B) and a non-linear voltage drop (&#x394;U) along the semiconductor power switch (B) applied as a sum voltage (U) directly to a driver input (DESAT) at a high voltage side of the second analog driver circuit (B) to trigger automatically a switch-off of the semiconductor power switch (B) within a second switch-off period (&#x394;t) to interrupt the secondary power supply path (B).
