A vehicle brake system with an electronically controllable brake booster, comprising an actuation member (70, 80) transferring the actuation travel of a brake pedal to a master cylinder, which is allocated a travel limiting element (82) accepted between two abutment faces which limits the actuation travel of the actuation member (70), and a switching element (85) which upon an actuation movement of the actuation member (70) can be activated by one of the abutments (91, 91a) in order to issue a signal to the controller of the brake booster, with the travel limiting element being arranged on the actuation member (80) between two collars (83, 84), and a carrier (86) accepting the switching element (85) being arranged between the travel limiting element and one of the collars.

Vehicle brake system with an electronically controllable brake booster

A pneumatic brake booster (10) and a hydraulic master cylinder (60) are arranged in a series along a common axis (A) to form an assembly which includes a booster housing (12), a power input member (30) and a power output member (40). A mechanical power transmitter (32) is arranged between the power input member (30) and the power output member (40). A sleeve (50) is rigidly attached at a valve housing (22) to enclose a portion of the power output member (40). At the booster housing (12) a master cylinder housing (62) is attached which has a guide (68) facing the power transmitter (32). A primary piston (70) is guided in the master cylinder housing (62) and includes a support (72) for the power output member (40) as well as an extension (74) which extends towards the power transmitter (32) and is guided in the guide (68). The sleeve (50) extends to near this support (72) and is provided with a head portion (52) which bears against the master cylinder (60) via the guide (68) in a radial direction. These components provide for the transmission and amplification of axial forces while being subjected to only small transverse forces and bending moments, even then when they may not be in perfect alignment with each other.

A vehicle braking system with an electronically controllable brake servo unit which comprises a first pneumatic working chamber (13) and a second pneumatic working chamber (14) which are separated from each other by a movable wall (11), wherein a travel sensor (20) is provided for the detection of displacements of the movable wall (11) relative to a stationary wall (5b) of at least one of the two working chambers (13, 14) is improved to simplify assembly and adjustment of the travel sensor in such a manner that a wall (11) is provided with an opening (19) through which a measuring element (10) being connected with another wall (5b) is projecting, and that the travel sensor (20) converts a relative movement between the measuring element (10) and the travel sensor (20) in the direction of the movement of the movable wall (11) into a signal used for controlling the brake servo unit.

For the purpose of routing an electric cable through the movable wall of the two pneumatic working chambers of an electronically controllable bake booster, comprising a first pneumatic working chamber and a second pneumatic working chamber which are separated by a movable wall, where a simple assembly and a high functional reliability are to be ensured, a cable feed-through for at least one electric cable penetrating the movable wall is provided, with a portion of the cable-feed through penetrating the movable wall, and a holder which limits the movability of the cable feed-through at least in its longitudinal direction, and a seal surrounding the cable feed-through in the area of the movable wall.

Pneumatic brake booster

A master cylinder (10) for a hydraulic brake system comprises a quickfill stage (28) which in the initial phase of an actuation of the master cylinder rapidly fills an associated brake system with hydraulic fluid upon a relatively short actuation travel. A housing (12) of the master cylinder (10) extends essentially along an axis (A) and comprises at least one pressure chamber (14) formed therein which is open at the actuation end of the master cylinder (10). A quickfill piston and a quickfill chamber of the quickfill stage (28) are essentially formed by a cup shaped component (30) which is guided on the acutation end of the master cylinder housing (12) in a telescopical and pressure chamber sealing manner. This solution can be manufactured economically and requires little installation space.

In a booster housing (10) two chambers (12, 14) separated from each other by a movable wall (16) are connectable to each other by a control valve (20) having a valve body (22) axially movable in common with the wall (16), said valve body having a first valve seat (24), a sealing element (60) axially movable in said valve body and pretensioned in the direction of said first valve seat and a valve barrel (30). The valve barrel (30) has a second valve seat (32) and is pretensioned in the direction of the sealing element (60), is couplingly connected for movement by means of a piston (42) movable by an actuator element (44) in the direction away from the sealing element (60) and is movable by means of a solenoid (40) also independently of the piston (42). Between said valve barrel (30) and said piston (42) an axially effective seal (56) is disposed so that it will only seal when an abutment (55) formed on said valve barrel (30) is in contact at least more or less with a coupling element (54) formed on said piston (42).

A booster housing, especially for vehicle brake systems, and a method of assembling such a booster housing in which a booster housing (20) has two housing bottoms (26, 28) which are each disposed at one side of a movable partition (60). Connecting members (32) on at least one of the housing bottoms (26) are each tightly crimped around one fastening hole (30). Spacers (50) extend between the two housing bottoms (26, 28) as well as through the partition (60). Each of the connecting members (32) is provided with a recess (40) into which an end portion (52) of the associated spacer (50) is inserted and crimped. The booster housing (20) is assembled by inserting an end portion (52) of a spacer (50) into the recess (40) of one connecting member (32), passing the connecting member (32) through a fastening hole (30), and simultaneously crimping the connecting member (32) with the housing bottom (26) and the spacer (50).

In a booster housing (10) two chambers (12, 14) separated from each other by a movable wall (16) are connectable to each other by a control valve (20) having a valve body (22) axially movable in common with the wall (16), said valve body having a first valve seat (24), a sealing element (60) axially movable in said valve body and pretensioned in the direction of said first valve seat and a valve barrel (30). The valve barrel (30) has a second valve seat (32) and is pretensioned in the direction of the sealing element (60), is couplingly connected for movement by means of a piston (42) movable by an actuator element (44) in the direction away from the sealing element (60) and is movable by means of a solenoid (40) also independently of the piston (42). On the piston (42) a third valve seat (72) is formed spaced apart from the sealing element (60) by a distance (B) when valve barrel (30) and piston (42) are in rest position, but is in contact with the sealing element (60), thus preventing the inflow of air into the first chamber (12), when the actuator element (44) is released whilst the valve barrel (30) is maintained by the solenoid (40) in a position distant from the sealing element (60).

A brake pressure booster for a vehicle brake system comprises a vacuum booster which includes two chambers, the low pressure chamber (16) of which is evacuated during actuation in a brake pressure boosting fashion, while a pressure higher than that in the low pressure chamber is adjustable in the high pressure chamber (14) by means of a control valve (28), the higher pressure exceeding the external atmospheric pressure. That is accomplished by a mechanical regulating valve (12) connected upstream of the control valve (28). Upon connection of a pressure source (18) to the high pressure chamber (14), a valve seat controlling access from the pressure source (18) to the valve opens before another valve seat closes that controls the connection between an inlet (24) into the valve and the high pressure chamber (14).

Hydraulic brake system with fast-fill valve

A housing (10) contains two cylinder bores (12, 14). In one of the cylinder bores (12) two pistons (16, 18) are arranged one behind the other and are displaceable by an external force (P) to subject a first or second pressure chamber (20, 22) to pressure. Two additional pistons (26, 28) are arranged one behind the other in the other cylinder bore (14) and are each displaceable by the pressure in one of said pressure chambers (20, 22) to subject a third pressure chamber (24) to pressure. Three brake circuit connections (30, 32, 34) are each connected to one of the pressure chambers (20, 22, 24). Three reservoir connections (40, 42, 44) are controlled by piston movements and each connected to one of the pressure chambers (20, 22, 24) for as long as it is pressureless. The third pressure chamber (24) is bordered by only one of the two additional pistons (26). The connection between the third pressure chamber (24) and the associated reservoir connection (44 ) is controlled by the same additional piston (26). The other of the two additional pistons (28) separates from each other chambers (70, 72) which are connected to the first and second pressure chambers (20, 22) respectively. As a result, that one of the additional pistons which borders the third pressure chamber moves on each actuation of the master brake cylinder irrespective of whether all the brake circuits are intact or any one of them has failed.

A master cylinder for an hydraulic pressure system has a pressure cylinder (1) on which is mounted a reservoir (11), the cylinder having an open end closed by a cap (3). The cap is positively coupled to the cylinder (1) by a coupling device (26) arranged so that resulting from pressure applied to the interior of the cap (3) is transmitted via said device to the cylinder.

Master cylinder for vehicle braking systems

A fabricated master cylinder includes a pressure cylinder and a separately made reservoir mounted thereon by way of a mounting device on the cylinder and a mounting formation on the reservoir. The mounting device and reservoir provide restraint surfaces for engagement by a locking device which, when engaged, maintains the cylinder and reservoir in co-operative relationship. In an alternative arrangement, the restraint surfaces are on respective parts of the mounting device and formation which, themselves act as locking means.
