A system for retaining an optical member about a mount can comprise a mount, an optical member having a first end and a second end, a primary retention system operable to secure the second end of the optical member to the mount, and a secondary retention system operable to secure the second end of the optical member to the mount. The secondary retention system can comprise a mount retention groove formed in the mount, an optical member retention groove formed in the optical member, the mount retention groove in the mount and the optical member retention groove in the optical member forming a retention channel upon the optical member being secured to the mount via the primary retention system, and a retention wire disposed within the retention channel. The secondary retention system activates to cause the retention wire to engage the mount retention groove of the mount and the optical member retention groove of the optical member upon movement of the optical member and at least partial failure of the primary retention system to retain the optical mount securely coupled to the mount.

Wire/ring secondary retention system for optical and other members

A system for retaining an optical member about a vehicle is disclosed. The system can comprise a mount, an optical member having a first end and a second end, and a primary retention system operable to secure the second end of the optical member of the mount. The system can further comprise a secondary retention system. The secondary retention system can comprise a retaining clip coupled to one of the optical member and the mount, adjacent the second end of the mount. The retaining clip can comprise at least one aperture therethrough. The secondary retention system can further comprise a pin coupled to the other of the optical member and the mount. The pin can extend through the aperture of the retaining clip. The secondary retention system can activate to cause the pin to engage the retaining clip upon movement of the optical member relative to the mount and at least partial failure of the primary retention system.

Secondary retention of optical members

A positioning mechanism for aligning an optical device and an image sensor is disclosed. The positioning mechanism includes a base operable with a support for an image sensor, a tube operable with an optical device, and an adjuster disposed between the base and the tube. In one aspect, the adjuster is positionable relative to the base in a translational degree of freedom and two rotational degrees of freedom. In another aspect, the tube is positionable relative to the adjuster in two translational degrees of freedom, and a rotational degree of freedom.

Positioning mechanism for aligning an optical device and an image sensor

A method and apparatus involve: yieldably urging movement of a first section relative to a second section in two directions transverse to each other and to a reference axis of the first section, where an optical fiber end portion can be supported on the first section; selectively operating positioning structures that respectively move the first section relative to the second section in the two directions against the yieldable urging. A different method and apparatus involve: selectively operating positioning structure that can move a first section with a reference axis relative to a second section in directions within a plane perpendicular to the axis, that can maintain the first section in a selected position, and that includes plural angularly-offset radial threaded openings in the second section that each have a screw therein with an end engaging the first section, an optical fiber end portion being supported on the first section.

Method and apparatus for accurately positioning an optical fiber end

A microscope includes a member supported for movement relative to a base along a path of travel, and optics on the member for imaging a region that includes a location for a specimen. The method and apparatus involve: effecting relative movement of a cam operatively coupled to one of the member and the base with respect to a cam follower operatively coupled to the other of the member and the base in a manner so that the cam follower slides along a cam surface on the cam; and responding to the sliding movement of the cam follower along the cam surface by effecting relative movement of the cam and cam follower in a manner that in turn effects movement of the member along the path of travel relative to the base.

Method and apparatus for focusing a microscope

A microscope includes a base having thereon first optics that image a region that includes a location for a specimen. A method and apparatus involve: removably supporting on the base an illumination module that includes a source of radiation and second optics; and delivering radiation from the source to the location utilizing optical structure embodied entirely within the second optics, including directing radiation traveling from the source to the location through a lens that is part of the second optics.

Method and apparatus for specimen illumination in a microscope

A method and apparatus relate to an optical sight that includes a first section, and a second section having optics thereon and having spaced first and second portions. One aspect of the method and apparatus involves: adjustably positioning the first portion relative to the first section; and yieldably urging movement of the second portion toward a target position relative to the first section while yieldably resisting movement of the second portion away from the target position, movement of the first portion by the adjusting structure effecting movement of the second portion relative to the first section.

Method and apparatus for adjustably supporting a component in an optical sight

A method and apparatus relate to an optical sight having a first section, and having a second section that is movable relative to the first section, and that has optics thereon. One aspect involves: preventing movement of the second section away from a first position past a second position; responding to movement of a member relative to the first section from a third position to a fourth position by moving the second section from the first position to the second position; resiliently urging the second section away from the first position and past the second position when the member is on a side of the fourth position remote from the third position; and releasably retaining the member in a position on a side of the fourth position remote from the third position.
