A method and apparatus for overmolding a plastic shroud onto a bobbin including the step of providing a protrusion ring on the surface of the bobbin surrounding each standoff between the bobbin and a mold wall and extending outwards from the surface of the bobbin. A plurality of standoffs and protrusion rings is presently preferred. The protrusion rings are small relative to the standoffs, have low thermal mass, and thus are readily melted by the injected molten plastic, causing interstitching between the bobbin material and the overmolding material. The interstitching creates a highly effective hermetic seal against moisture leakage along the surface of the bobbin away from the standoff site. Perfect melting of the standoffs is no longer required, and standoffs can be designed to assure proper positioning of the bobbin during the complete overmolding process.

An engine fuel injector (,) having a fuel inlet tube (,) and a biasing spring (,) loading a solenoid actuated injection valve (,) within the injector (,) is provided with a calibration assembly (,) combining the calibration member (,) or tube with an internally mounted fuel inlet filter (,). The calibration member (,) may include a body (,) with an enlarged end (,) that is interference fitted within the fuel inlet tube (,) and an opposite stepped in end (,) forming a seat (,) which is engaged by the biasing spring (,). The fuel filter (,) has an enlarged annular base (,) fixed within the enlarged end (,) of the calibration member (,) and having an associated filter screen (,) or element through which fuel passing through the calibration member is filtered for passage through the injector (,). The filter screen (,) may extend completely within the calibration member (,), or alternatively, can project outward from the enlarged end (,) of the calibration member (,) into the inlet end (,) of the fuel inlet tube (,). Advantages in the ease of calibration, reduced assembly costs and improved filtration of fuel are provided.

A fuel injector for an engine includes a continuous endoskeletal injector tube enclosing an imperforate continuous passage for fuel flow from an inlet end to an outlet end of the tube. A valve seat, injection valve, tubular magnetic pole, biasing spring and adjusting sleeve are mounted within the tube, optionally with other elements, all being exposed to fuel in the passage defined by the tube. A solenoid coil and a magnetic body together with mounting components and seals are mounted on the exterior of the tube where they are protected from exposure to the fuel, which is restricted to passage within the continuous tube. The body, pole and armature form a magnetic flux concentrating path operative to attract the armature to the pole and open the valve when the coil is energized. The solenoid coil may be preassembled with its connector in a body forming a separate coil assembly for subsequent installation on the injector tube. During assembly, the tubular pole may be adjusted to set the desired stroke of the injection valve prior to fixing the pole in the tube. Various other features are also disclosed.

Exhaust gas recirculation valve cover

A valve assembly for controlling recirculation of exhaust gases has three solenoid operated valve members that meter flow of exhaust gases through calibrated outlets from an exhaust gas chamber. Each valve member has a valve stem extending to its solenoid armature, and each valve stem is surrounded by a pair of spring-biased seals that seal the openings around the valve stems into the solenoid coils and the chamber. In this assembly, each armature-valve member-seal floats laterally to compensate for potential misalignment between the solenoid coils and the outlets.
