A method and composition for inhibiting foam formation in automatic dishwashers are described. The composition comprises an anti-foam system having 0.01 to 1% of certain hydrophobic particulate solids combined with 0.01 to 4% of high viscosity hydrocarbon polymers; 1 to 30 wt. % of a bleaching agent; 1 to 40 wt. % of a surfactant; 0.1 to 10 wt. % of an enzyme; and 1 to 75 wt. % of a builder, the composition having a pH of less than about 11.

A process for manufacturing a low sudsing fabric washing powder in which a mixture of a suds-suppressant, such as an alkyl phosphoric acid ester or a salt thereof, and a hydrophobic material such as a petroleum jelly or a natural or synthetic wax is combined with a spray-dried detergent powder. The temperature of the powder at which combination takes place is lower than the drop-melting point of the mixture of suds-suppressant and hydrophobic material.

Process for making controlled sudsing detergent powder

An insoluble polyvalent salt of a C.sub.12 -C.sub.24 mono- or di-alkyl phosphoric acid is used as a lather controller in detergent compositions. The use of this material as lather controller is especially beneficial in built fabric washing detergent compositions.
