A backlight unit for a display device comprising a chassis, a reflector affixed to the chassis, optical sheets affixed to the chassis, one or more light emitters affixed to the chassis, and optically-calibrated internal support structures. There is an air gap between the reflector and the optical sheets. The optically-calibrated internal support structures are disposed within the air gap and affixed to the chassis. The optically-calibrated internal support structures are configured to increase rigidity of the chassis, and to substantially not alter the uniformity of light emitted by the one or more light emitters through the optical sheets.

A video conference system includes two cameras placed on opposite sides of a touch screen display. Multimedia processing is performed in order to automatically switch between the cameras and to display items on the touch screen display based on user position or user interactions with the system.

A communication system includes a touch screen display device with first and second cameras mounted on opposite sides of the touch screen display device so a field of view for each camera is pointed inward relative to the touch screen display device. A conferencing subsystem controls conferencing communication to send and receive touch screen display signals and video signals.

A tensioning mechanism is configured to tension the flexible overlay film against the layer of the device throughout a periphery. The tensioning mechanism also is configured to allow movement of the flexible overlay film in two dimensions.

A multimedia projector ( ) includes an image processor ( ) that forms an image on an image forming device ( ). Illumination reflecting off the image, propagates through a projection lens ( ), along a projection axis ( ), and lands on a projection surface ( ) as a projected image ( ). An elevator mechanism ( ) tilts the projection axis to position the projected image on the projection surface, which tilting causes keystoning of the projected image. In a first embodiment, an inclinometer ( ) generates angle data indicative of a projection axis angle ( ). A controller ( ) receives the angle data and coacts with the image processor to predistort the image to compensate for the keystoning. In a second embodiment, the elevator mechanism includes an elevator shaft ( ) having teeth ( ) that alternately pass and obscure light as the elevator shaft undergoes movement. An optical sensor ( ) generates angle data proportional to a distance moved by the elevator shaft. The angle data are processed by the controller and image processor to predistort the image to compensate for the keystoning. In a third embodiment, the teeth are replaced by a rotary encoder wheel ( ) that is rotatably coupled to the elevator shaft.
