A pressure sensor includes a tube for channeling a fluid therethrough. A notched seat is disposed in an outer surface of the tube and is open at circumferentially opposite ends, with a flexible diaphragm at the bottom thereof. The diaphragm is planar, and blends at its perimeter coextensively with an arcuate inner surface of the tube. A gauge is mounted in the seat above the diaphragm for measuring flexure thereof under pressure of the fluid inside the tube.

Compressed gases, liquefied gases, or supercritical fluids are utilized as anti-solvents in a crystal growing process for complex molecules. Crystals of the present invention exhibit greater crystal size and improved morphology over crystals obtained by conventional methods.

Method for producing large crystals of complex molecules

The invention involves the use of supercritical or near-critical fluids for the inactivation of viruses, especially enveloped or lipid protected viruses, and nonenveloped, protein encased viruses, viral-like particles and other pathogens in any matrix, but preferably in solutions containing biologically active proteinaceous products of natural or genetic engineering origin or in semi-solid or solid support matrices which are thermally labile or sensitive to conventional viral inactivation techniques.
