A method of forming an implant includes providing a preformed shell formed from at least one cured elastomeric layer. The shell includes an outer surface, an inner surface, and an opening for accessing an interior volume of the shell. The method further includes expanding the shell to an expanded state, in which the interior volume is greater than the interior volume of the shell at a time of forming the shell and forming an inner zone having at least one inner elastomeric layer on at least a portion of the inner surface of the shell, while the shell is in the expanded state, thereby forming a multi-zone shell. The method further includes reducing the interior volume of the multi-zone shell, thereby contracting the at least one inner elastomeric layer of the inner zone and causing texturing of the at least one inner elastomeric layer.

Implant with elastomeric membrane and methods of fabrication thereof

A method of forming an implant includes providing a preformed shell formed from at least one cured elastomeric layer. The preformed shell includes an outer surface, an inner surface, and an opening for accessing an interior volume of the preformed shell. The method further includes expanding the preformed shell to an expanded state, in which the interior volume is greater than the interior volume of the preformed shell at a time of forming the preformed shell and forming an inner zone having at least one inner elastomeric layer on at least a portion of the inner surface of the preformed shell, while the shell is in the expanded state, thereby forming a multi-zone shell. The method further includes reducing the interior volume of the multi-zone shell, thereby contracting the at least one inner elastomeric layer of the inner zone and causing texturing of the at least one inner elastomeric layer.

An ocular stent for insertion in an anterior chamber of an eye is provided. The stent facilitates the restoration of the structure of an irideocorneal angle of the anterior chamber for treating structural changes from ocular aging. The stent includes: a continuous annular central portion; an anterior portion protruding in an anterior direction from the central portion and being configured to provide variable contact around a circumference of the stent with a surface of a transition zone between a trabecular meshwork and a corneal endothelium of the eye; and a posterior portion extending in a posterior direction from the central portion, the posterior portion being configured to contact a portion of a peripheral iris of the eye. A method for stabilizing the irideocorneal angle of the anterior chamber using a stent is also disclosed herein.

Ocular collar stent for treating narrowing of the irideocorneal angle

A method of forming a fluid-filled implant is provided. The method includes: forming a first zone of an elastomeric membrane defining at least one partially enclosed void space; expanding a volume of the void space, thereby expanding a volume enclosed by the first zone; forming a second zone comprising at least one elastomeric middle layer on at least a portion of the expanded first zone; and reducing the volume of the void space, thereby contracting elastomeric layers of the first zone and the second zone. The method also includes forming an adjustable implant from the elastomeric membrane by enclosing the void space to form at least one chamber.

Adjustable implant with self-sealing elastomeric membrane and methods of fabrication thereof

A method of reducing the risk of macular degeneration is provided. The method includes inserting an intraocular collar stent into a portion of a mammalian eye, such that the stent is in contact with soft tissue of the anterior chamber. When inserted in the eye, the stent applies pressure to a surface centered on a transition zone, between an anterior limit of a trabecular meshwork and a posterior limit of a corneal endothelium of the eye, to a surface of the peripheral iris of the eye, and in circumferentially expanding direction to the irideocorneal angle. The pressure is applied continually. The method also includes creating an environment of a reduced negative pressure state within the retina as a result of the application of the pressure; and, while the reduced negative pressure state is present, permitting drusen precursors formed by extracellular material to flow through the eye for removal by vasculature of the eye.

Method of reducing the occurrence of macular and neuroretinal degenerations by alleviating age related retinal stresses as a contributing factor in a mammalian eye

An adjustable implant for volumetrically altering, replacing, expanding, or augmenting tissues is provided. The implant includes an elastomeric membrane enclosed or partially enclosed about a main chamber. The implant is adapted to expand when filled with a fluid. The membrane includes an outer zone formed from at least one outer elastomeric layer; an inner zone formed from at least one inner elastomeric layer; and a middle zone formed from at least one elastomeric middle layer positioned between a least a portion of the outer zone and at least a portion of the inner zone. The implant is configured such that the middle zone is under contraction from a contracting force provided by the outer zone or the inner zone. A method of forming a fluid-filled adjustable implant for volumetrically altering, replacing, expanding, or augmenting tissues is also provided herein.

An ocular stent for insertion in an anterior chamber of an eye is provided. The stent facilitates the restoration of the structure of an irideocorneal angle of the anterior chamber for treating structural changes from ocular aging. The stent includes an annular body sized to fit in the irideocorneal angle of the eye. The body includes: an anterior portion configured to contact a surface of a transition zone between a trabecular meshwork and a corneal endothelium of the eye; a posterior portion configured to contact a peripheral iris of the eye; and a central portion connecting the anterior portion and the posterior portion of the body. A method for stabilizing the iredeocorneal angle of the anterior chamber using a stent is also disclosed herein.
