Producer-colored nylon fibers which are stain-resistant to acid dyes are made by adding pigment to nylon copolymers containing 0.25-4.0 percent by weight of an aromatic sulfonate or an alkali metal salt thereof. In addition process advantages relating to the use of the same copolymers in making pigmented nylon fibers are also disclosed.

Stain-resistant, pigmented nylon fibers

An improved process for melt spinning a pigmented hexamethylene adipamide fiber from a melt blend of a polymer and a colored pigment wherein the polymer is a random interpolyamide or a block polymer having two different difunctional recurring amide-forming moieties other than those which form hexamethylene adipamide is disclosed along with pigmented hexamethylene adipamide polymer fibers having tenacities greater than 7.5 or even 8 grams per denier.

Processing of pigmented nylon fibers using modified polymers

Draw breaks are reduced in the spinning and drawing of certain pigmented nylon filaments by incorporating at least 5% of polycaproamide in the melt shortly before spinning.
