A container which is useful for safely storing and transporting compositions, such as liquid organic peroxide-containing compositions, which may be flammable, combustible, susceptible to exothermic decomposition, explosive and/or otherwise hazardous, is provided. The container includes a containment vessel having thermoset polymer-containing walls, as well as a vent mechanism. The containment vessel may be manufactured by a rotational molding process using a thermoplastic polymer, such as a polyethylene, which is crosslinked to provide the thermoset polymer.

Containers for transporting and storing liquid compositions

Embodiments of organic peroxide formulations provide significant improvements in surface tackiness (often including tack-free surfaces) when curing elastomers in the presence of oxygen. The peroxide formulations may include, for example, one or more compounds selected from sulfur-containing compounds, organophosphite compounds, HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabilizer) compounds, aliphatic allyl urethane compounds, and blends comprising nitroxides (e.g., 4-hydroxy-TEMPO) and quinones (e.g., mono-tert-butylhydroquinone).

Compositions and methods for crosslinking polymers in the presence of atmospheric oxygen

An organic peroxide composition is provided which is liquid or near liquid at 25&#xb0; C. or a low melting solid and which includes at least one ethylenically unsaturated organic peroxide (i.e., an organic peroxide containing at least one carbon-carbon double bond) and at least one saturated organic peroxide. The organic peroxide composition may further include at least one mono- and/or poly-unsaturated compound and at least one free-radical trap. The organic peroxide can be blended into a polymer such as a powdered or granular polyethylene resin. This peroxide-containing polymer can be used in rotational molding, wherein the polymer is added to a mold which is heated in an oven with rotation, thereby melting the polymer and coating the inside of the mold.

Efficient curative for free radically-crosslinkable polymers

Embodiments of organic peroxide formulations provide longer scorch time protection and require fewer additives. The peroxide formulations may include, for example, at least one organic peroxide, at least one nitroxide-containing compound (e.g., 4-hydroxy-TEMPO), and at least one quinone-containing compound (e.g., mono-tert-butylhydroquinone).

Liquid and meltable solid grades of scorch protected peroxides

An organic peroxide formulation includes at least one organic peroxide and at least one cellulose compound. Embodiments of the organic peroxide formulations significant improvements in surface tackiness (often including but not limited to tack-free surfaces) when curing elastomers in the presence of oxygen. Embodiments of the present invention relate to organic peroxide formulations that can cure solid elastomers in the full or partial presence of oxygen using, for example, a hot air oven or tunnel, molten salt bath, or steam autoclave. Embodiments of the invention also relate to crosslinkable elastomer compositions, processes for curing the elastomers, and products made by such processes.

An organic peroxide formulation comprises at least one organic peroxide, at least one drying oil, and at least one free radical trap. A process comprises curing mixtures that include at least one elastomer and the organic peroxide formulation in the presence of oxygen. Elastomer compositions, methods of manufacturing elastomer articles, and elastomer articles made from the elastomer compositions are also disclosed.

The present invention provides a method of increasing the absorption rate of peroxides into polymer particles used to fabricate electrical cable insulation. The method includes contacting the polymer particles with a peroxide compound and an additive under physical mixing conditions at a temperature that is above the melting point of the peroxide compound but below the softening point of the polymer particles for a period of time sufficient to allow the peroxide compound to absorb into the polymer particles. Preferably, the additive is squalane or another branched, hydrocarbon oil that substantially increases the rate at which the peroxide compound is absorbed into the polymer particles and improves the peroxide cure.

Method of increasing the absorption rate of peroxides into polymer particles

The present invention provides a method for the suppression of bloom in polymeric articles that are crosslinked using &#x3b1;,&#x3b1;'-bis(tert-butylperoxy) diisopropylbenzene, polymeric compositions comprising &#x3b1;,&#x3b1;&#x2032;-bis(tert-butylperoxy) diisopropylbenzene that are non-blooming, agents for crosslinking polymers, and crosslinked polymeric articles formed in accordance with the method of the invention. Agents for crosslinking a polymeric composition according to the invention include a mixture of &#x3b1;,&#x3b1;&#x2032;-bis(tert-butylperoxy) diisopropylbenzene and a nonionic compound having a hydrophobic group bonded to a polyethylene glycol chain via an ether linkage, wherein the hydrophobic group includes about 12 or more carbon atoms at least 8 of which are in the form of an alkyl chain, and wherein the polyethylene glycol chain includes about 20 or more ethylene oxide units.

Method and composition for the suppression of bloom in peroxide crosslinked polymeric articles

In accordance with the method of the invention, supported peroxides are preferably formed by dispersing a mixture that includes at least one peroxide and at least one Cto Ccarboxylic acid into an aqueous solution that includes a compound that is capable of reacting with the Cto Ccarboxylic acid to form a water soluble soap. Dispersing the mixture into the aqueous solution results in the formation of an emulsion. A polyvalent metal compound that is capable of reacting with the water soluble soap to form a water insoluble metallic soap is then added to the emulsion, which converts the water soluble soap into a water insoluble metallic soap that precipitates from the solution. The organic peroxide is entrained within the precipitate.

Supported peroxides

The present invention provides supported peroxides, and a method of forming supported peroxides. Supported peroxides according to the invention are solid particles that include an organic peroxide, a metallic soap, and a polymer. In accordance with the method of the invention, supported peroxides are preferably formed by dispersing a mixture that includes at least one peroxide and at least one C to C carboxylic acid into an aqueous solution that includes a compound that is capable of reacting with the C to C carboxylic acid to form a water soluble soap. Dispersing the mixture into the aqueous solution results in the formation of an emulsion. Polymer is then added to the emulsion, and forms a polymer suspension. A polyvalent metal compound that is capable of reacting with the water soluble soap to form a water insoluble metallic soap is then added to the polymer suspension, which converts the water soluble soap into a water insoluble metallic soap that precipitates from the suspension. The organic peroxide and the polymer are entrained within the precipitate.

Encapsulated peroxide compositions

The present invention provides supported peroxides, and a method of forming supported peroxides.
