A sample retention apparatus for use in a device for measuring hemostasis. The device for measuring hemostasis may include a sample articulation apparatus including a guide shaft coupled for articulating motion to a drive motor, a sample carrier secured to and axially moveable along the guide shaft between a sample ready position, a sample testing position and a sample ejection position. The sample carrier therefore articulates in unison with the articulating motion of the guide shaft. A measuring apparatus may include a sensing column. The sample retention apparatus may include a sample cup defining a volume within which a sample may be disposed. The sample cup may be adapted to be operably positioned within an aperture formed within the sample carrier. The sample testing apparatus may also include a sample pin that is engageable with the sensing column. The sample pin may include a tip portion for extending into the sample cup. The sample pin may also include a flange extending radially outwardly from the tip portion for substantially completely enclosing the sample space during measurement of hemostasis.

Sample retention apparatus for use in measuring hemostasis

A method and apparatus are provided for measuring hemostasis. The apparatus includes a torque sensing column having a torque sensing element and a drive ring disposed around a body of the column and in registration with the column so as to allow rotation of the drive ring around a longitudinal axis of the column. The apparatus further includes a first guide shaft rigidly secured to the drive ring, the guide shaft extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the column and a cup holder movably attached to the guide shaft, allowing the cup holder to move parallel to the longitudinal axis of the column. The apparatus also includes a sample cup adapted to engage the cup holder on a outer surface and the torque sensing element of the torque sensing column on an inner surface.

Method and apparatus for measuring hemostasis

A vaporizer having a heating chamber which may be quickly and easily removed and replaced when scale buildup interferes with the operation of the vaporizer. The vaporizer may have an improved electrode configuration, whereby the bottom portion of the electrodes provide most of the boiling energy. The vaporizer may be easily and safely maintained, as user access to the electrodes is prevented. In addition, a vaporizer is described having an electrode cartridge which may be quickly and easily removed for replacement or cleaning. A unique reservoir design provides for a flat or rising lip surrounding the main reservoir opening, which allows the reservoir to be compatible with dishwasher cleaning. The vaporizer may be provided with mineral salts to enhance the flow of electric current between the vaporizer elements.

A coin handling mechanism for conveying coins to a remotely positioned coin receptor which accumulates the deposited coins. There is a water trap positioned along a back wall of the housing for diverting the flow of liquid injected through the coin entrance slot downwardly along the back of the housing to a fluid collecting chamber. The water trap comprises intersecting vertical support members and horizontal cross bars. There is also provided a coin discharge chute having an adjustment mechanism to adjust the point of discharge of the coins.

A revised boiling chamber geometry in a vaporizer provides a scale collection area which prevents occlusion of the water inlet. A detachable scale collection cup allows for easy removal and cleaning of the cup.

A coin handling mechanism for conveying coins to a remotely positioned coin receptor which accumulates the deposited coins. There is a liquid diverter within the mechanism for directing the flow of liquid injected through the coin entrance slot downwardly along the back of the housing to a fluid collecting chamber. A plurality of ribs at the back of the housing form channels for directing the flow of the fluid along the back of the housing. There is also provided a coin discharge chute having an adjustment mechanism to adjust the point of discharge of the coins. This compensates for variances in various vending machines and positions the coin discharge chute properly with respect to the coin receptor.

The invention discloses a method and apparatus for effectively localizing a stone and targeting a shock wave in connection with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy ('ESWL'). The technique disclosed by this invention can be adapted for use in connection with any conventional lithotripter. In this invention, an array of at least 3 and preferably 4 or more pressure transducers are used to sense the reflection from the target in response to an initial shock wave or ultrasonic wave. The sensor readings are then temporally shifted relative to one another in such a way as to maximize correlation between the signals from each sensor. The required time shifts for maximum correlation are used to calculate the differences in arrival times of reflected waves at the sensors. By knowing the original location of the sensors and establishing the time differences at which the reflected wave reaches the different sensors, a technique is disclosed to determine the vector coordinates extending between the target location and the focal point of the lithotripter.
