A mold and molding device for forming a sunken groove in a tire is provided. The molding device includes a thin flexible wire having one or more molded elastomer elements thereon. The flexible wire is preferably hyperelastic and the molded elastomer is preferably silicone rubber.

Flexible enrobed molding device for manufacturing a sunken groove in a tire tread

A tire mold and a molding device for forming a sunken groove in a tire are provided. The molding device includes one or more rigid elements joined to a flexible member along an attachment point or line on the connecting surface of the rigid element. The flexible member is formed from a flexible material, preferably a superalloy, or hyperelastic material. If multiple rigid elements are utilized, the rigid elements are closely spaced together such that a portion of the opposed walls are in mating contact with an adjacent rigid element.

Flexible molding device for manufacturing a sunken groove in a tire tread

A tire mold and a molding device for forming a sunken groove in a tire are provided. The molding device includes one or more rigid elements joined to a flexible member. The flexible member is formed from a flexible material, preferably a superalloy, or hyperelastic material. The molding device may further comprise a magnet. A portion of the flexible member is positioned in contact with a first surface of a relief forming element of a mold and the rigid element has a mating surface in mating contact with a second surface of the relief forming element. The mold further may further comprise a second relief forming element positioned adjacent the first relief forming element, wherein the rigid element further includes an outer surface in mating contact with a surface of said second relief forming element.

Flexible molding device for manufacturing a sunken groove or surface tie bar in a tire tread

A tire with a changing tread pattern is formed by first forming a tire having a tread, the tread having at least one circumferential or lateral groove. A wearable filler, having a configuration corresponding to at least a portion of the circumferential or lateral groove formed in the tire, is located in the radially outer portion of the circumferential or lateral groove or a portion of the circumferential or lateral groove, and secured within the grooves so as to create a groove void radially inward of the wearable filler, the void being exposed upon wear of the tire tread.

Pneumatic tire

A stress sensor includes two capacitor plates held in a spaced-apart relationship by a connector block situated therebetween. The connector block includes a plurality of rods protruding from opposite connector block sides and extending into a respective capacitor plate to attach peripheral portions of each capacitor plate to the connector block. A small air gap is maintained between peripheral portions of the capacitor plates by the inclusion of a spacer member. Terminal end portions of the protruding rods are deformed such as by the application of heat over an outer surface of the capacitor plates to retain the capacitor plates in a fixed mutual relationship. The terminal end portions of the rods further serve to prevent horizontal or vertical slippage between the capacitor plates when the sensor is vulcanized into rubber compounds such as in a tire. Once embedded within the rubber compound, the gap between the capacitor plates varies responsively to stress within the rubber compound whereby varying proportionately the capacitance of the device. A signal is directed into the sensor device and an antenna positioned proximate to the device detects the capacitance value between the capacitor plates. As the capacitance varies proportionately with stress within the material, the antenna detects the changes and transmits data to a remote reader that interprets the data to ascertain measured stress within the rubber compound.

Tire sensor and method of assembly

A tire (10) is provided with a cast body (12). The cast body has an annular circumferentially extending isotropic portion (14) having a pair of anisotropic side portions (16,18) extending therefrom. The side portions are rendered anisotropic by geometric means. A reinforcing means (30) is attached to the inner or interior surface of the side portions and extends from the isotropic portion to a point radially inwardly of the maximum section width (SW) of the tire. The reinforcing means may include a number of alternating ridges and grooves (46,48). The body may be cast from an elastomeric material such as polyurethane. A tread (26) and belt package (28) is disposed over the body and may be either elastomeric or rubber.
