A process for preparing a laminated glazing involves providing a first glass sheet having a desired shape with a first thickness, providing a second glass sheet having a desired shape with a second thickness; providing an interlayer between the first and second glass sheet; applying a mould shaped substantially the same as the first glass sheet against the second glass sheet; aligning the two glass sheets and misaligning the mould with respect to the two glass sheets so the mould is offset relative to the two glass sheets; and laminating together the first and second glass sheets and the interlayer at a temperature and pressure sufficient to adhere the interlayer to the glass sheets, such that after lamination, the second glass sheet is offset relative to the first glass sheet whilst the shape of the second glass sheet is substantially the same as the shape of the first glass sheet.

Process for preparing a laminated glazing

A process for preparing a laminated glazing comprises providing a first glass sheet formed into a desired shape with a first thickness by a first procedure and providing a second glass sheet formed into a desired shape with a second thickness by a second procedure with an interlayer located therebetween, and laminating together the first and second glass sheets and the interlayer at a temperature and pressure sufficient to adhere the interlayer material to the glass sheets and in which the process further comprises applying a mould which is shaped substantially the same as the first glass sheet, against the second glass sheet, during laminating to adhere the interlayer material to the two glass sheets such that after lamination, the shape of the second glass sheet is substantially the same as the shape of the first glass sheet.

The invention relates to a heatable glazing comprising an electrically conductive coating and a data transmission window. The data transmission window comprises a plurality of grids made by ablations in the electrically conductive coating and at least one break line between adjacent grids. At least one of a width 'a' of the grids and a distance 'b' between adjacent grids is selected to maximise transmission of a predetermined frequency of electromagnetic radiation and to reduce the formation of hot spots. Preferred embodiments conform to a standard size of an ERTICO window and a frequency range from 5 GHz to 6 GHz.

Glazing

A method of manufacturing a glazing having a frequency selective surface comprising the steps of: a) depositing a coating on a substrate, said coating being non-transmitting to radio frequency (RF) radiation; b) providing a laser beam and c) removing a portion of the coating by laser ablation to form one or more curves and/or lines having a spacing selected to provide transparency of the coating to RF radiation of a desired wavelength; characterized by d) directing the laser beam and/or moving the substrate such that the relative motion of the intersection of the laser beam and the coating, with respect to the substrate, comprises motion in a first dimension, wherein said motion is simultaneously superimposed with a reciprocating motion in a second dimension;e) translating said intersection in the second dimension; andf) repeating at least step d) out of steps d) to f).

Glazing with frequency selective coating

Laminated vehicle glazing with a conductive panel defining slot antennas between the conductive panel and the metal surround of the vehicle with connecting leads, and a camera or other device in an area where the device and the antenna do not overlap. Locating the device in a different position to the slot antenna reduces the electromagnetic interference that the slot antenna experiences and prevents malfunction of the device where the slot antenna is used to transmit radio signals.

An electrical connector comprising a connector body having first and second connection portions and two or more electrical pathways provided within the connector body between the first and second connection portions, the first connection portion having a functional surface on which at least two exposed areas of conductive material are provided, each of which is in contact with a corresponding electrical pathway, for connection to an electrical element on a substrate, wherein adhesive is provided on the functional surface such that, at a minimum, a peripheral band is formed around each of the areas of conductive material for adhesion to the substrate. Also a glazing comprising at least one pane of glazing material provided with an electrical element, and an electrical connector as described above electrically connected to the electrical element and adhered to a surface of the glazing.

Electrical connector

An automotive vehicle having an aperture in the vehicle body in which a glazing, comprising a switchable film laminated between at least two plies of an interlayer material is fitted is disclosed. The plies of interlayer material are laminated between a first ply of glazing material, preferably glass, facing out of the vehicle and a second ply of glazing material, preferably glass, facing into the vehicle. The switchable film comprises first and second electrodes, both in electrical connection with a power supply. The first electrode is capacitively connected to electrical ground on the vehicle body.

RF interference reduction for functional glazings

An automotive glazing having a non-galvanic contact for an electrical device associated with the glazing is disclosed. The glazing comprises a first ply and a second ply of transparent glazing material having a ply of interlayer material extending between the plies of glazing material. The glazing also comprises an electric circuit, having a first connector portion, situated adjacent the ply of interlayer material, the first connector portion being configured to form a coupling region such that electrical signals in the circuit are can be coupled between the coupling region and an electrical device placed on the glazing. A second connector portion is included on the surface of the second ply of glazing material situated away from the interlayer material, and connectable to an electrical device. The second connector portion is adapted to receive a ferromagnetic core. This leads to an increased coupling factor (efficiency), making the connection suitable for powering a variety of electrical devices used within automotive vehicles and conventionally mounted on glazings.

A motor vehicle glass pane has an electrical arrangement () with conductor junction areas () arranged one beside the other an one surface of the pane (). A connecting element is provided which is connected to the conductor junction areas () and which is intended to connect the electrical arrangement () to a device an the motor vehicle for processing signals or voltage supply. The connecting element comprises a plug or clamping connector () for a flat Gable () which comprises a number of conductors insulated from one another. The plug or clamping connector () comprises an insulating flat body () incorporating a slot-shaped Gable fixture () arranged basically parallel to the surface of the pane. A flat Gable () with one free end () may be datachably inserted into the Gable fixture. The plug or clamping connector further comprises a number of connecting conductors (),the Gable-side ends () of which lead into the Gable fixture (),and the glass-side ends of which () are connectable to the conductor junction areas ().

A laminated glass pane with a transparent functional film embedded between laminating layers, said functional film incorporating a recess, wherein in the area of the recess of the functional film is arranged a transparent auxiliary film whose thickness is essentially the same as the thickness of the functional film. To prevent faults in optical transmission in the area of the recess, the auxiliary film overlaps the edge of the recess at least slightly in some areas.

A motor vehicle, especially a passenger vehicle, has a metallic body provided with a window opening receiving an antenna window. The antenna window has inner and outer panes bonded together by a bonding layer with an optically-transparent electrically-conductive solar central coating reducing transmission in at least a part of the solar energy range. At least one edge of the window is left free from the coating and in this region a slot antenna is formed. At least at one additional edge, the coating runs to that edge and is overlapped by the framing portion of the vehicle body and is coupled with a high-frequency coupling to the coating.

An antenna pane has a transparent sheet in which is imbedded a plurality of conductors at least some of which serve as antennas. It is tested by applying a test signal to one of the conductors and thereby transmitting the test signal from the one conductor, receiving the test signal with the other conductors serving as antennas, and evaluating the test signal received by the other conductors serving as antennas. The conductors serving as antennas of the pane are connected to a diversity processor and therethrough with a receiver. The test signal is produced by a signal generator operated by the diversity processor.

Testing a built-in windshield antenna

A connecting element for a glass sheet of multi-pane glass, in particular of laminated glass, which incorporates at least an outer pane, an inner pane and a laminating element joining the panes to one another, as well as an electrical arrangement located between the panes, the connecting element incorporating at least a metal foil strip being at least partly insulated, being connectable to the electrical arrangement and bondable to the outside of the inner pane. To make it possible that the connection to the electrical arrangement can already take place prior to the laminating process and to provide assurance for the connecting element against peeling off during manipulation of the finished glass sheet the inner section of the metal foil strip connectable to the electrical arrangement extends between the inner pane and the outer pane. The outer section of the metal foil strip bondable to the outside of the inner pane incorporates an area with a greater thickness than that of the inner section and forms a single piece with the inner section. At least on fold location is provided between the outer section and the inner section in the region of the edges of the inner pane.

Electrical connector for vehicle window

A window antenna for a motor vehicle body opening in which the antenna is used for mobile radio in a double-band operation with bands have a long wavelength L and a short wavelength K. Two monopoles L/4 and K/4 are electrically connected by a foot portion to which the core of the coaxial feeder cable is adjoined. Two radials corresponding in dimensions to the monopoles can extend along at least one edge of the pane and parallel to the frame member. The radials are connected to the shielding. The spacing of the radials from the frame, the width of the radials and their lengths are selected so that the radiation characteristics are optimized and standing surface waves on the shielding of the cable is avoided.
