Water dispersed phosphated epoxy-acrylic polymers are produced by first producing an epoxy phosphate followed by in-situ polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers, including carboxyl monomers, in the presence of the epoxy phosphate and utilizing at least 3% peroxide catalyst based on the weight of monomers.

Phosphate epoxy acrylic copolymers

The invention pertains to coating compositions comprising self-curing water-dispersed polymers, epoxy-acrylic copolymers, and preferably including epoxy phosphate polymers. The self-curing water-dispersed polymers produced preferably by step-wise polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprising alkylol acrylamide monomer, functional monomers, and other monomers, wherein the alkylol acrylamide monomers are copolymerized in the second stage monomer addition to preferentially locate alkylol acrylamide groups in the surface portion of the latex polymer particles. Melamine resins can be added to improve the cure properties of the coating composition. The coating compositions are advantageously sprayable compositions and are particularly useful for interior coatings for food and beverage containers.

Aqueous self-curing polymeric blends

A self-curing water dispersed copolymer particularly useful for coatings for interiors of beverage containers comprises a self-curing water dispersed copolymer of polymerized ethylenic monomers, including alkylol acrylamide monomer and functional monomer, produced by copolymerizing the monomers in the presence of an epoxy phosphate additive.

Self-curing water dispersed polymer blends

A polymeric composition useful for interior coatings for beverage containers comprises a polymeric mixture of epoxy-acrylic copolymer and epoxy phosphate ester.

Aqueous polymeric blends

The composition comprises an aqueous polyelectrolyte polymer intermixed with a phosphated polymer and a self-curing water dispersed polymer containing copolymerized functional monomer and alkylol acrylamide monomer. The polyelectrolyte polymer is produced by copolymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomers, including hydroxyl or carboxyl monomers in the presence of an ionizing agent.
