A power supply circuit () for a switching voltage regulator () connectable to a load () is described. In order to manage a power consumption of the switching voltage regulator () and in particular to minimize a power consumption of the switching voltage regulator when being operative, the power supply circuit () is configured for selectively supplying the switching voltage regulator () with one of a first input voltage and a second input voltage in response to a control signal indicative of an operative state of the load () such that the switching voltage regulator () is switched between a working state in response to the first input voltage and a standby state in response to the second input voltage.

Power consumption management of a switching voltage regulator

A power supply particularly suitable for high-speed optical data transmission employs readily available components to achieve desired voltage tolerances. More specifically, a voltage signal supplied to a load is converted into a digital signal and provided to a processor that derives a digital correction signal from the digital signal. The digital correction signal is then converted to an analog correction signal and is used by a feedback control circuit in the power supply to regulate the output voltage.
