The proposed technology concerns network units and, which are typically remotely located, and from the perspective of one of the network units, the other network unit is therefore referred to as a remote network unit. The network unit is configured to provide Radio Resource Control, RRC, and/or Packet Data Convergence Protocol, PDCP, protocol functionality, and comprises an X2 unit for providing an X2 interface between the RRC and/or PDCP protocol functionality of the network unit and lower protocol layer(s) and/or sub-layer(s) of the remote network unit. The network unit is configured to provide Radio Link Control, RLC, and/or Medium Access Control, MAC, protocol functionality, and comprises an X2 unit for providing an X2 interface between the RLC and/or MAC protocol functionality of the network unit and higher protocol layer(s) and/or sub-layer(s) of the remote network unit.

A method performed by a radio network node for enabling establishment of a connection between a wireless communications device and a core network, which network node and wireless communications device operate in a wireless communications network including the core network. The network node obtains a request from the wireless communications device to establish a connection to a first core network node included in the core network. The first core network node is not available for connection to the wireless communications device. The network node provides the wireless communications device with a rejection of the request to establish the connection to the first core network node, which rejection includes an indication to initiate a Tracking Area Update, TAU.

A system and method of supporting packet-switched handover of a mobile station (MS) from a GERAN/UTRAN cell to a Generic Access Network (GAN) cell within a GAN. If the MS is within coverage of the GAN cell, the MS registers within the GAN, triggering initiation of the packet-switched handover from the GERAN/UTRAN cell to the GAN cell. A preparation phase is then conducted for executing the packet-switched handover. The preparation phase includes identifying the MS context as part of the preparation phase and activating the GA-PSR TC towards the MS. Next, the packet-switched handover is executed, resulting in the MS switching to GAN mode. The MS then begins transferring packets via the GAN cell. The system and method also supports a packet-switched handover from the GAN cell to the GERAN/UTRAN cell.

System and method of supporting packet-switched handover

A method in a radio access node performs a sleepy cell test which can determine a cell state for a cell served by a radio access node. Fulfilment of a predetermined triggering condition is detected in a radio access node. Following detection of the fulfilled triggering condition, one or more user equipment to be paged is determined. The radio access node initiates a page response timer period and performs paging of the user equipment until there is time out of the timer period or a page response is received from the one or more user equipment. The paging responses received while performing the step of paging the user equipment is assessed. A cell state alert message reflecting the result from the paging is generated and sent to a receiving entity. The disclosure relates to a method () for radio bearer release performed in a base station node () of a communication system (). The base station node () provides one or more radio bearers to a user equipment (), and the communication system () comprises a serving gateway (). The present invention is a method and system adapted to facilitate, between a mobile station (MS) and network, an indication of support for reduced time transmission interval (RTTI). The MS can provide a base station system (BSS) with an indication of its multislot capability within an access burst sent at the start of a contention based access. In another aspect, the MS can indicate support for a new Immediate Assignment message as the conventional Immediate Assignment message can only assign single timeslots. The present invention enables the Radio Access Network (RAN) to assign RTTI and more than one timeslot for GPRS/EDGE temporary block flows (TBFs) during an Access Grant Channel (AGCH) assignment.
