A device () for mounting an electric motor (), in particular a fan motor, includes an essentially pot-shaped receptacle housing ()&#x2014;functioning as motor housing ()&#x2014;with a receiving opening () into which at least part of the electric motor () extends. A holding flange () is attached to the receptacle housing () for mounting the motor housing () to a carrier element (), e.g., a motor vehicle heater system and/or air conditioner. A mechanism for immobilizing the electric motor () radially and axially in the motor housing () is included. A drive unit for a radial blower has an electric motor including a driven shaft with a bearing for said driven shaft, and a motor housing provided with bearing pins which coaxially project at an end side of the motor housing and surrounds the bearing, a housing which receives the electric motor and has holders engaged in the bearing pins, at least one damping element composed of an elastic material and inserted between one of the bearing pins and one of the holders to radially and axially support the electric motor, the damping element being composed of a plurality of roller bodies having radially oriented body axes, the roller bodies being offset relative to one another and connected with one another with substantially constant distances there between.

The method of operating a windshield wiper intermittently requires an apparatus including a rain sensor (12), which generates a signal (S) depending on an amount of rain on the windshield, and a signal processing device (13), e.g.a microprocessor with internal A/D and D/A converters, connected to the sensor (12) to receive the signal (S) and, a control unit connected to the signal processing device (13), and, advantageously, a device for measuring a wiping process duration (T) and inputting the duration to the microprocessor and a drive for the windshield wiper connected to the signal processing device (13). According to the method, the windshield wiper is operated by the signal processing device at least partially according to the signals (S) from the sensor so that the time interval (I) between successive current wiping processes, depends, in part, on a duration (T.sub.-1, T.sub.-2, . . . T.sub.-n) of at least one past wiping process (W.sub.-1, W.sub.-2, . . . W.sub.-n); in part, on a number of signals (S) received from the sensor (12) in a certain time interval F set in the signal processing device; in part, on at least one of two intervals (I.sub.-1, I.sub.-2, . . . I.sub.-n) between past wiping processes (W); and also depends, in part, on at least one time interval (D.sub.0,D.sub.-1, . . . D.sub.-n) between successive ones of the signals (S.sub.0,S.sub.-1 ;S.sub.-1,S.sub.-2, . . . S.sub.-n,S.sub.-n-1).

Method of operating a windshield wiper

A gas sensor device has a carrier plate of ceramic or glass. The carrier has apertures which leave only strips in a spiral configuration connecting a middle region of the carrier to the outer region thereof. The apertures may be mere slits separating the connection strips or they may be apertures providing larger air gaps. On each middle region so provided on the carrier a sensor element is located that has two electrodes and a sensitive layer which establishes a conducting connection between the electrodes. The electrodes and the sensitive layer are directly applied to the upper surface of the middle region. The two electrodes are comb shaped and are placed in inter-digital configuration to define a meandering gap between them. On the underside of the middle region of the carrier a heating element for the sensor element is provided and, if desired, also a temperature measuring resistance for regulating the temperature produced by a heating resistor. Conducting paths are located on the connecting strips between the middle region and the outer region of the carrier for connecting a sensor element and its heater to circuits on the outer region of the carrier plate.

An ion conductive sensor is connected to a current source which, in order to prevent polarization effects, controls current flow through the sensor in spaced or polarity-alternating pulses. If the sensor is a humidity sensor, it is preferably constituted by Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, V.sub.2 O.sub.5 and Na.sub.2 WO.sub.4 in a proportion, by weight, of preferably 2 to 2.5:1:1, sintered on a substrate which has comb electrodes applied thereto. The sensor is especially immune to noise or disturbance pulses from the current supply and is especially suitable for use as an ambient humidity sensor in an automotive vehicle (810).

A humidity sensor, and particularly a sensor which can distinguish between low humidity values, for example below 60% humidity, and high humidity values, for example 90% humidity and thereover, and change the capacitance between output electrodes (5, 6) is formed by applying interdigited comb electrodes (1, 2) on a substrate (8) and applying over the substrate a ceramic mass formed of BaRuO.sub.3, V.sub.2 O.sub.5 and Na.sub.2 WO.sub.4, with a weight relationship of (1.+-.0.4):(1.+-.0.4):(0.6.+-.0.2) preferably 1:1:0.6. The sensor is made by first making a powder of the components, mixing it with a glass paste and, if necessary, a thinner, and applying the resulting paste by thick-film technology to a ceramic substrate on which the electrodes have been applied, and then firing the substrate at a temperature of between 550.degree. C. to 850.degree. C. The sensor is particularly sensitive in humidity ranges above 60% relative humidity and is especially suitable to sense fogging of the inside of a windshield of an automotive vehicle.

An air blower sucks air from an area of an air heated compartment of a motor vehicle and blows out an air stream into a different area of the compartment. A temperature sensor is located in the air stream at a relatively large distance from the air blower so as to entrain ambient air from the compartment. Due to the mixing of the discharged air stream with the ambient stream, an information about the overall temperature in the compartment is detected by a single temperature sensor.

A temperature-sensing module is described, including a measuring element sensitive to temperature, such as an NTC resistor. In order to reduce the thermal influence of the housing of the element and of the electrical connection, and also to improve the mechanical stability and resistance against vibrations, the connection wires of the element are attached to conductive webs formed side-by-side on a carrier plate of an electrically and thermally insulating material. The conductive webs at one end have enlarged areas which are connected to the connection wires of the sensitive element, and the connecting part of each web is relatively narrow in cross section and has a meander-like configuration. The transition between the enlarged part and the meander-like part is further restricted in cross section to reduce the thermal influence to a minimum. The other end of the meander-like conductive parts is again enlarged in area and forms a contact terminal points attachable to the pins of the connector plug, for example.
