An exercise apparatus includes a motor, a cable coupled to the motor, an exercise attachment coupled to the cable such that the motor is operable to exert force on the exercise attachment via the cable, a display screen, and a controller. The controller is programmed to control the motor based on simulated progress through a virtual environment, determine a beam direction based on a cranial orientation of the user of the exercise apparatus, generate a graphical visualization of the virtual environment by casting a virtual light beam along the beam direction, and cause the display screen to display the visualization.

Exercise equipment with dynamic illumination of simulated environment

Exercise equipment includes a motor, a cable coupled to the motor such that the motor is operable to create a tension in the cable, a sensor arranged to measure a parameter affected by tapping of a foot of a user of the exercise equipment, and control circuitry programmed to modify operation of the motor in response to detecting a pattern in the parameter as measured by the sensor.

An exercise apparatus includes a motor configured to generate a force experienced by a user of the exercise apparatus, a video monitor, and circuitry. The circuitry is configured to obtain an augmented video file from a remote streaming service. The augmented video file comprises a video and a plurality of settings. The augmented video file associates the plurality of settings with a plurality of time steps during a runtime of the video. The circuitry is also configured to cause the video monitor to display the video, and, at each of the plurality of time steps during the runtime of the video, control the motor in accordance with the setting associated with the time step.

Motorized strength training apparatus with integrated content and settings stream

An exercise apparatus includes a first cable, a first motor configured to apply a tension to the first cable, a pair of pulleys, and a terminal. The first cable extends from the first motor, past the pair of pulleys, and to the terminal, and the terminal constrains a distal end of the first cable from retracting toward the first motor away from the terminal such that at least a minimum length of the first cable is maintained between the first motor and the terminal. A method of guiding pacing of a strength training exercise includes receiving a selection of a current exercise from a plurality of available exercises, determining an illumination pattern based on a desired pacing for the current exercise, and controlling a lighting system to display a plurality of repetitions of the illumination pattern.

A method of varying a dynamic resistive force during a strength training exercise includes receiving a selection of the strength training exercise from a set of available strength training exercises and obtaining exercise logic for the strength training exercise from computer memory. The exercise logic provides instructions for generating a vector that defines the dynamic resistive force provided at an end effector of a strength training apparatus during the strength training exercise. The method includes determining a real-time geometric arrangement of a plurality of cables coupled to the end effector, generating, based on the real-time geometric arrangement of the plurality of cables and the exercise logic, time-varying operating setpoints for a plurality of actuator assemblies coupled to the plurality of cables, and exerting the dynamic resistive force at the end effector by controlling the plurality of actuator assemblies in accordance with the time-varying operating setpoints.

A cable-based exercise system. A chassis is provided to house the actuators. A force plate sits on top of this chassis. A bar configured for gripping by a user is provided. The bar has a first end and a second end. Two or more cables are connected to each end of the bar. Each cable connects an end of the bar to a drive motor. Each drive motor can be independently controlled. A central processor is preferably provided to receive sensory inputs and control the drive motors.
