Exercise equipment includes a motor, a cable coupled to the motor such that the motor is operable to create a tension in the cable, a sensor arranged to measure a parameter affected by tapping of a foot of a user of the exercise equipment, and control circuitry programmed to modify operation of the motor in response to detecting a pattern in the parameter as measured by the sensor.

A paddling simulator includes a bar, a cable attached to the bar, a motor operationally coupled to the cable such that the motor can apply a force to the cable, and a controller configured to control the motor to generate a first tension in the cable during a propulsion phase of a paddling stroke and a second tension in the cable during a recovery phase of the paddling stroke.

An exercise bench includes a base, a slidable seat coupled to and slidable along the base, and a removable pad positionable on frame. A reformer includes a base having a longitudinal direction, a carriage coupled to the base and moveable relative to the base in the longitudinal direction, and an actuator coupled to the carriage and the base such that the actuator is arranged to exert a force between the carriage and the base. The force moves the carriage relative to the base in the longitudinal direction or resists movement of the carriage relative to the base in the longitudinal direction.

An apparatus includes a first cable, a first motor configured to provide first tension to the first cable, a second cable coupled to the first cable at an end effector, and a second motor configured to provide second tension to the second cable. The first cable and the second cable are routed such that the first tension and the second tension combine to provide a force on the end effector. A strength training assembly includes a stand and a frame movable along the stand in a vertical direction. The frame includes a cradle configured to receive a barbell. The strength training also includes a drive system coupled to the frame and controllable to affect a velocity of the frame relative to the stand, a force sensor coupled to the frame such that the force sensor moves with the frame, the force sensor configured to provide a signal indicative of an amount of force exerted on the force sensor by a user, and a controller configured to receive the signal from the force sensor and control the drive system such that the velocity of the frame varies as a function of the amount of force exerted on the force sensor.

Exercise apparatus with linear positioning system

An exercise apparatus includes a motor configured to generate a force experienced by a user of the exercise apparatus, a video monitor, and circuitry. The circuitry is configured to obtain an augmented video file from a remote streaming service. The augmented video file comprises a video and a plurality of settings. The augmented video file associates the plurality of settings with a plurality of time steps during a runtime of the video. The circuitry is also configured to cause the video monitor to display the video, and, at each of the plurality of time steps during the runtime of the video, control the motor in accordance with the setting associated with the time step.

Motorized strength training apparatus with integrated content and settings stream

An exercise apparatus includes a first cable, a first motor configured to apply a tension to the first cable, a pair of pulleys, and a terminal. The first cable extends from the first motor, past the pair of pulleys, and to the terminal, and the terminal constrains a distal end of the first cable from retracting toward the first motor away from the terminal such that at least a minimum length of the first cable is maintained between the first motor and the terminal. The exercise apparatus also includes a first connection point between the pair of pulleys, wherein the first connection point is configured to selectively redirect the cable between the pair of pulley such that the first connection point experiences a first force corresponding to double the tension.

A method of guiding pacing of a strength training exercise includes receiving a selection of a current exercise from a plurality of available exercises, determining an illumination pattern based on a desired pacing for the current exercise, and controlling a lighting system to display a plurality of repetitions of the illumination pattern.

A method of varying a dynamic resistive force during a strength training exercise includes receiving a selection of the strength training exercise from a set of available strength training exercises and obtaining exercise logic for the strength training exercise from computer memory. The exercise logic provides instructions for generating a vector that defines the dynamic resistive force provided at an end effector of a strength training apparatus during the strength training exercise. The method includes determining a real-time geometric arrangement of a plurality of cables coupled to the end effector, generating, based on the real-time geometric arrangement of the plurality of cables and the exercise logic, time-varying operating setpoints for a plurality of actuator assemblies coupled to the plurality of cables, and exerting the dynamic resistive force at the end effector by controlling the plurality of actuator assemblies in accordance with the time-varying operating setpoints.

A cable-based exercise system. A chassis is provided to house the actuators. A force plate sits on top of this chassis. A bar configured for gripping by a user is provided. The bar has a first end and a second end. Two or more cables are connected to each end of the bar. Each cable connects an end of the bar to a drive motor. Each drive motor can be independently controlled. A central processor is preferably provided to receive sensory inputs and control the drive motors.

Parallel cable exercise device

An exercise device where force is applied by computer-controlled actuators. The programmable nature of the force application allows the device to simulate weight-training devices and other useful exercise devices.

Actuator-based exercise and training device

In an embodiment, a relative deflection detector may include at least two structural arcs, and a predetermined number of means for measuring position capable of determining the relative deflection in a first component. The at least two structural arcs may be for example, comprised of a first and second structural arc whereby the first and second structural arcs are attached to the first component at respective first and second predetermined locations and whereby each arc is comprised of a respective sequence of indicators, such as, for example, codes inscribed on the outer circumference of each arc. The first and second structural arcs may be positioned in concentric and coplanar relationship with each other. The predetermined number of sensors may be comprised of a first and second optical encoder sensor each positioned in proximate and coplanar relationship with the first and second structural arcs so as to read the first sequence of codes, second sequence of codes, or both, and thereby detect positions of each structural arc (e.g., a first position corresponding to the first structural arc and a second position corresponding to the second structural arc). The first and second positions may be used to calculate and thereby determine a relative deflection of the first component.
