An antenna for electrical coupling to a wireless communication circuit includes a first conductive strip segment having a first length, a second conductive strip segment having a second length different from the first length and coupled to the first conductive strip segment at a feed point to be electrically coupled to the drive node, and a third conductive strip segment having a third length less than both the first length and the second length. A first end of the third conductive strip is coupled to the feed point and a second end is coupled to circuit ground. The first conductive strip segment provides a first specified operating frequency range at a fundamental resonance mode corresponding to the first length plus the third length, and the second conductive strip segment provides a second specified operating frequency range at a fundamental resonance mode corresponding to the second length plus the third length.

A planar antenna for wireless information transfer can include a planar loading portion electrically coupled to a driven node of a wireless communication circuit, and a folded conductive strip portion coupled to the planar loading portion, the folded conductive strip portion comprising at least two segments laterally offset from each other and at least partially laterally overlapping with each other. The planar loading portion can be configured to establish a specified bandwidth of a second operating frequency range, leaving a first specified operating frequency range substantially unchanged.

Apparatus and techniques can include a planar antenna that can include a folded conductive strip portion coupled to a driven node of a wireless communication circuit, the folded conductive strip portion comprising at least two segments laterally offset from each other and at least partially laterally overlapping with each other, and a first region oriented along a first axis in a plane of the planar antenna and a second region oriented along a second axis in the plane of the planar antenna, the two axes and the two regions specified to provide polarization diversity of radiation from the planar antenna. The planar antenna can include a stub coupled to the folded conductive strip portion, the stub configured to provide a first specified operating frequency range at or near resonance using a mode corresponding to a total physical path length along the folded conductive strip portion.

A system including an external medical data telemetry device to communicate with an implantable medical device (IMD). The external medical data telemetry device includes a processor, a reconfigurable radio-frequency (RF) transceiver circuit, at least one far-field antenna, and a user interface. The reconfigurable RF transceiver circuit modulates an outgoing IMD data signal and demodulates an incoming IMD data signal using a modulation type that is selectable from a plurality of modulation types by the processor. The processor selects the modulation type using information entered by a user through the user interface.
