A method for the continuous production of steel using metal charge material that is preheated in an upper part of a melting vessel, is then melted in a lower part of the melting vessel with fossil fuels and the molten material is continuously discharged into a treatment vessel in which the desired steel quality is adjusted while gases are introduced into the melting vessel from the exterior to afterburn the melting exhaust gases. The process gases are step-wise afterburned when ascending in the melting vessel by introducing the afterburn gases into the interior of the charge material column by way of an interior shaft that projects into the material column and in whose walls inlet openings for the gases are disposed and form afterburn planes arranged one on top of the other.

Method and device for the continuous production of steel using metal charge material

The invention relates to a method and device for the continuous production of steel using metal charge material () that is preheated in an upper part of a melting vessel (), is then melted in a lower part () of the melting vessel l() with fossil fuels () and the molten material () is continuously discharged into a treatment vessel () in which the desired steel quality is adjusted while gases () are introduced into the melting vessel () from the exterior to afterburn the melting exhaust gases (). The aim of the invention is to improve the aforementioned afterburn step while at the same time reducing oxidation of the iron-containing charge materials. For this purpose, the process gases () are step-wise afterburned when ascending in the melting vessel () by introducing the afterburn gases () into the interior of the charge material column by way of an interior shaft () that projects into the material column and in whose walls () inlet openings () for the gases () are disposed and form afterburn planes (E, E) arranged one on top of the other. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the inventive method.

In the metallurgical treatment of metals, metal melts and/or slags in a metallurgical unit or melting vessel, especially in electric arc furnaces, injection devices () are used for blowing in or up oxygen-rich gases () and/or carbonaceous substances, which cause as long as possible gas jet (') with a high pulse energy to strike to strike the surface of the slag or metal. It is known to envelope produced gas jet (&#x2032;), thereby focusing it. According to the invention, such an envelope is obtained by using a hot gas (&#x2032;) that is preaccelerated to such a degree that the central gas jet (&#x2032;) is preferably without pulse losses.

A mold for continuous casting is changed for changing the dimensions of the casting, by, selecting a casting speed during a change of the mold dimensions which is not lower than the one prior to the change; one or both small mold walls are tilted each about an axis below the low end of the respective wall, the mold wall is then parallel shifted, the shifting to begin before the final tilting is completed; thereafter the mold wall is tilted back about an axis coinciding with a surface level of molten material in the mold, the back tilting begins before the lateral shifting ends.
