The method is used in a telecommunication network wherein a central station (CS) is coupled to a plurality of residences (R ,R ,R ). One of the residences (R ) includes a termination unit (TU) which is coupled to the central station (CS) via a first port (P ). The residence (R ) also includes subscriber terminals, e.g. a personal computer (PC), a telephone set (TEL), a television set (TV) and a set-top box (STB) which are coupled to the termination unit (TU) via a second port (P ). The method includes amplifying an upstream signal (US) applied to the second port (P ) with an upstream gain value (UG) by means of an upstream signal amplifier (U-AMP ) which is included in the termination unit (TU). Thereby, an amplified upstream signal (AUS) is generated and provided to the first port (P ). The upstream gain (UG) is a compensation for the signal power attenuation of the internal transmission line (UA-Li) between the termination unit (TU) and one of the subscriber terminals which is in fact the in-house network attenuation. By this way cross-talk in the region of the internal transmission line at the subscriber terminals is reduced by reducing the differences between the signal power levels.

Method used in a telecommunication network, termination unit realizing the latter and a telecommunication network including such a termination unit

The main station (MS) and possibly also the terminal stations (T1, T2, T3) of a telecommunication network is/are provided with memories wherein historical information (TT1, TT2, TT3, TT4, CT1, CT2, CT3), i.e. information with respect to log-in attempts of terminal stations (T1, T2, T3) in the past, is stored. This historical information is frequently updated and is used during a polled log-in method wherein terminals (T1, T2, T3) are polled either individually or in groups, executed for instance after a network crash or power-down, to limit the number of terminals that has to be polled by the main station (MS) so as to speed up the polled log-in procedure. The performance of the log-in of each single terminal further increases significantly if this terminal is located at a substantially fixed location in the network and if power- and delay information for transmitting upstream identification messages during log-in are also contained by the historical information.

Log-in method for a telecommunication network, main station and terminal

An apparatus for measuring the temperature of an object within a process chamber is described. The process chamber includes a platform for receiving the object and an energy source for transferring energy to the object. The apparatus includes a shield, and a first and second energy sensor. The shield is positioned in the chamber adjacent the object to create an isothermal cavity in the space between the object and the shield. The shield is designed to receive from the energy source an amount of energy approximating that received by the object. The first energy sensor is positioned between the shield and the platform to measure the temperature of the object. The second energy sensor measures the temperature of the shield. A method for establishing an isothermal condition within the process chamber includes the steps of varying the shield temperature in inverse relationship to the difference between the shield temperature and a target temperature. Then the temperature of the object is valued in inverse relationship to the difference between the temperature of a cavity sensor and the target temperature. When the readings are within a predetermined range of the target temperature an isothermal condition is indicated. A method for monitoring the temperature of an object within the process chamber is also described. The method includes the steps of obtaining the coupling ratio for a cavity temperature sensor; obtaining the response time of the cavity temperature sensor and determining the temperature of the object T.sub.w on the basis of a formula which correlates the coupling ratio, the response time, and temperature readings of the shield and cavity.

The method is used in a system comprising a central station (CS) coupled to each of a plurality of terminal stations (TS1-TSn), wherein the central station (CS) is enabled to transmit downstream frames (DS) to the terminal stations to allow the terminal stations to transfer upstream frames (US) to the central station in time slots assigned thereto by way of of access grant information (TEA1-TEA4) included in the downstream frames. The downstream frame (DS) is a superframe having a matrix structure with rows and columns, and a first portion and a second portion of the matrix structure is an overhead portion (S, TCB) and an information portion (ATM) respectively. The overhead portion includes the access grant information and the size of the overhead portion is flexibly adaptable. The central station and the terminal stations are adapted to send and to interpret the superframe.

To allocate time slots to terminal stations (T1 . . . Ti . . . Tn) for transmission of upstream burst (UB) in a network system wherein a central station (CS) is coupled to a plurality of terminal stations (T1 . . . Ti . . . Tn), the central station (CS) downstream transmits access grant information (AGI) which forms part of downstream frames (DE). Each terminal station (Ti) is equipped with a cyclic local grant counter (LGC) which generates a local grant counter value between zero and a predetermined limit, and which is synchronized with a cyclic master grant counter (MGC) included in the central station (CS). The upstream time slots are bounded by two zero crossings of the cyclic local grant counter (LGC) and a terminal station (Ti) is allowed to transfer an upstream burst (UB) in such a time slot provided that this time slot is allocated to the terminal station (Ti) via previously received access grant information (AGI).
