The present disclosure provides exemplary embodiments of voltage harvesting devices used in power distribution systems, and provides power distribution system architectures utilizing the voltage harvesting devices. Generally, the voltage harvesting devices transform distribution line AC voltages to produce a low wattage output for distribution system communication and control type devices. The voltage harvesting device can operate whether irrespective of the presence of load current.

The present disclosure provides controllers for power distribution network circuit interrupting devices and provides electronic control circuits for inclusion in such controllers. The electronic control circuit has a boost circuit, a capacitor storage unit and a pulse width modulator control circuit. The boost circuit boosts an input voltage to a value to supply sufficient energy to a protective relay solenoid to energize the solenoid. The capacitor storage unit stores the boosted voltage from the boost circuit. The pulse width modulator control circuit is responsive to a control and enable circuit to selectively enable energy from the capacitor to energize the one or more protective relays in power distribution system circuit interrupting device.

A circuit interrupting device for use with a electrical power distribution system includes a housing containing a circuit interrupting mechanism. A battery tube is positioned in the housing. A battery assembly is configured to be inserted into the battery tube. The battery assembly includes a battery assembly body having a first end and a second end. A battery is positioned in the battery assembly body. The battery assembly is configured such that both a positive contact and a negative contact are exposed from the second end of the battery assembly body. In some embodiments, the battery assembly includes a keyed portion mates with the battery tube to ensure alignment of the battery assembly in the battery tube.

A circuit interrupting device for use with an electrical power distribution system includes a housing containing a circuit interrupting device. A battery tube is positioned in the housing. A battery assembly is configured to be inserted into the battery tube. The battery assembly includes a assembly body having a first end and a second end. A battery is positioned in the assembly body. A cap assembly is connected to the assembly body and configured to connect the battery assembly to the battery tube. The cap assembly includes a torque-limiting device that prevents overtightening of the cap to the battery tube.

A cap is connected to the assembly body and configured to connect the battery assembly to the battery tube. The cap includes a torque-limiting device that prevents overtightening of the cap to the battery tube.

A resettable cutout sectionalizer uses a modified trunnion member including a bridge and a modified cutout hinge including at least one blocking flange. One actuated, the spring-loaded sectionalizer latching pin actuates to free the sectionalizer which is rotated open by the rotation of the trunnion. The trunnion rotates open and then is blocked from further rotation in a first direction by the bridge contacting the blocking flange(s) of the cutout hinge. To reset the device, the sectionalizer body is rotated against the blocking flange which causes the latching flange of the trunnion to cam against the latching pin to overcome the spring bias and push it back into the reset position.
