An apparatus for determining a functional index for stenosis assessment of a vessel is provided. The apparatus comprises an input interface () and a processing unit (). The input interface is configured to obtain image data () representing a two-dimensional representation of a vessel (). The processing unit () is configured to determine a course of the vessel () and a width (w, w) of the vessel along its course in the image data and is further configured to determine the functional index for stenosis assessment of the vessel based on the width of the vessel in the image data.

The invention provides a device and a method that improve the determination of the position of stents in complicated situations.

The invention relates to an assistance device, an assistance system and an assistance method for assisting a practitioner in an interventional hemodynamic (e.g fractional flow reserve (FFR)) measurement on a subject. The FFR pressure measurements are combined with an, for example, angiography-based assessment of the coronary vessel geometry. An advanced computational fluid dynamics model may be employed to add flow and myocardial resistance data based on the interventional pressure values and on a vascular model generated prior to the intervention. In case that these data are available prior to the intervention, the location of most optimal positions for pressure measurements can be pre-calculated and by overlay of the vessel tree, for example, on the X-ray projection, advice can be given for the interventional cardiologist during the intervention.

Assistance device and method for an interventional hemodynamic measurement

A system and method for vascular roadmapping include an X-ray imaging device for generating a fluoroscopy image, a data base in which a plurality of contrast-enhanced images is stored, a user interface element and a processor. Each of the contrast-enhanced images is stored together with the imaging parameters based on which the image is generated. The user interface element may be configured for selecting any intended imaging parameters, such as by manually adjusting the imaging device in any position and orientation. The processor may be configured for identifying a stored contrast-enhanced image out of the plurality of contrast-enhanced images, which is generated with specific imaging parameters, where the deviation of the specific imaging parameters from the intended imaging parameters is as small as possible, thus the processor may be configured for identifying the nearest available roadmap.

A method and an image processing system for the evaluation of projection images generated by an X-ray imaging system, wherein the images may show different instruments of a given set of interventional instruments like catheters or guide wires. The instruments are equipped with markers such that their configuration is characteristic of the corresponding instrument. Preferably three markers are arranged on a straight line, the ratio of the distances between them being characteristic for the corresponding instrument. The image processing system may then identify the instruments present in a given projection and provide functionalities for a user that correspond to said instruments. The invention relates to an imaging apparatus for imaging an object () being preferentially a catheter. A kinematics model () of a robot representing the object (), which is defined by kinematics parameters, and projection data of the object (), which correspond to different projection directions, are provided. The kinematics model () is modified by modifying the kinematics parameters such that a difference between simulated projection data, which are determined by simulating a forward projection of the kinematics model (), and the provided projection data is minimized. Since the object () is represented by a kinematics model () of a robot, movements of the object (), in particular, deformations of the object (), can be described in a simple way by few kinematics parameters, thereby allowing modifying the model () and, thus, following a movement of the object fast by modifying the few kinematics parameters, in particular, in real-time.

A method for dynamically visualizing coronary information and an apparatus adapted to implement such method is described. In a preferred embodiment of the method, first dynamic cardiac data is acquired during a first cardiac stage and second dynamic cardiac data is acquired during a second cardiac stage. Then, the two data sets are visualized continuously the in a superimposed presentation, wherein the first cardiac data and the second cardiac data corresponding to a same phase within the cardiac cycle are visualized simultaneously. In this way for example information about the vessel geometry may be immediately linked with information about the muscle irrigation or perfusion. Furthermore, this useful information may be displayed in a high-contrasted and low-noise presentation.

A system, apparatus and method are provided for measuring and removing the influence of pulsatility on contrast agent flow in a region of interest of a vascular system of a patient. Once the change of blood speed over the cardiac cycle is known (pulsatility), this influence is removed from acquired image sequence for outcome control such that 'quasi-stationary', regular flow acquisition is passed on to subsequent visualization and analysis processes. A contrast agent injector is also provided that simultaneously measures and uses ECG to inject a known contrast agent at a fixed point over the cardiac cycle or such that a known amount of contrast agent will arrive at a known time at a region of interest in the vasculature of a patient, thus controlling one of the main unwanted variables in an acquisition of blood flow sequences.

System, apparatus, and method for reproducible and comparable flow acquisitions

A medical viewing system for processing and displaying a sequence of medical angiograms representing a balloon, moving in an artery, this system comprising extracting means for automatically extracting balloon image data in a phase of balloon expansion, and computing means for automatically defining and storing coordinates of a Region of Interest (ROI) based on the expanded balloon image data, located around the expanded balloon; and display means for displaying the images. Contrast agent may be used as agent of balloon expansion. The system may have means to detect and keep track of balloon markers and means to look around those markers for further balloon image data extraction.
