Systems and methods are disclosed for maintaining spacing between a superior spinous process and a superior lamina, and an inferior spinous process and an inferior lamina of adjacent vertebrae of a spine. A system may include an implant having a proximal superior surface with a superior concavity shaped to receive the superior spinous process, a proximal inferior surface with an inferior concavity shaped to receive the inferior spinous process, a distal superior surface, distal to the proximal superior surface, that faces the superior lamina, and a distal inferior surface, distal to the proximal inferior surface, that faces the inferior lamina. The implant may further have a threaded member extending along a proximal-distal direction, that rotates to urge the implant to move from a retracted configuration to a deployed configuration by urging the distal superior surface and the distal inferior surface to move apart.

Interspinous-interlaminar stabilization systems and methods

An implant assembly may include a screw with a head having a head feature and an implant. The implant may be securable to a bone of a patient with the screw. The implant may include a bone plate, a rotatable structure having a top surface and a bottom surface. The bottom surface may include a lock feature. The lock feature may engage the head feature when the rotatable structure is in a locked orientation and disengage the head feature when the rotatable structure is in an unlocked orientation. The rotatable structure may couple to the bone plate such that the rotatable structure is rotatable between the locked orientation and the unlocked orientation. The head feature may be one of a ridge and a radial groove and the lock feature may be the other one of the ridge and the radial groove.

An expandable intervertebral implant is disclosed for use in between adjacent vertebral bodies in a spine. An expandable intervertebral implant may include an upper plate having a first upper side and a second upper side, a lower plate having a first lower side, a second lower side, and a first lattice that connects the first upper side to the first lower side. The expandable intervertebral implant may further include a second lattice that connects the second upper side of the upper plate to the second lower side of the lower plate and an opening having a longitudinal axis between the upper plate, lower plate, first lattice, and second lattice. The expandable intervertebral implant may further include an expansion mechanism comprising a driver that expands the upper plate and the lower plate away from each other along a cephalad-caudal axis by deforming the first lattice and the second lattice.

An expandable intervertebral implant that includes an upper endplate having: a proximal end with a proximal ramp, and a distal end with a distal ramp. The proximal ramp includes a pair of upper proximal rails and the distal ramp includes a pair of upper distal rails. The expandable intervertebral implant also includes a lower endplate that includes a proximal end, a proximal ramp, a distal end, and a distal ramp. The proximal ramp includes a pair of lower proximal rails and the distal ramp includes a pair of lower distal rails. The at least one of the lower distal rails and the lower proximal rails is closer to a central plane than one or more of the upper distal rails and the upper proximal rails. The central plane divides a left side from a right side of the expandable intervertebral implant.

Expandable intervertebral implant system and method

A polyaxial bone anchor assembly, comprising: a threaded screw portion comprising a head end; a head body disposed concentrically about the head end of the threaded screw portion; and a saddle assembly disposed within the head body and selectively engaging the head end of the threaded screw portion; wherein, when the saddle assembly is translated within the head body into a first locked position, the head body is coupled to the threaded screw portion such that disengagement of the head body from the threaded screw portion is allowed; and wherein, when the saddle assembly is translated within the head body into a second locked position, the head body is coupled to the threaded screw portion such that disengagement of the head body from the threaded screw portion is prevented.

Polyaxial bone anchor incorporating a two position saddle assembly

The present invention provides a minimally-invasive surgery pedicle screw and rod assembly, inserter tool, and insertion method for use in spinal stabilization procedures and the like. The screw and rod assembly utilizes a screw head body that has a pair of tab extenders that extend longitudinally from the head body to a point well outside of the skin and musculature of the patient. A rod is coupled to and translated along these tab extenders, ultimately into proximity with the head body. The rod is inserted into, aligned with, and translated along the length of the tab extenders, and then selectively pivoted about an enlarged partial spherical bearing into a configuration that is substantially perpendicular to the tab extenders and the head body. The present invention also provides an inserter tool that is used to dispose the rod concentrically within the tab extenders, translate the rod along the length of the tab extenders, and then pivot the rod with respect to the tab extenders and the head body.

Minimally-invasive surgery pedicle screw and rod assembly, inserter tool, and insertion method for use in spinal stabilization procedures

A three column spinal fixation implant, including: an anterior cage configured to be disposed in an intervertebral space between adjacent vertebral bodies in a spine of a patient; an anterior plate coupled to the anterior cage; a pair of anterior screws coupled to the anterior cage and the anterior plate and extending posteriorly from the anterior cage and the anterior plate through a portion of one or more of the adjacent vertebral bodies and into or through posterior bony structures of the spine of the patient; a pair of anterior screws coupled to the anterior plate and extending posteriorly from the anterior plate through a portion of one or more of the adjacent vertebral bodies and into or through posterior bony structures of the spine of the patient; a plurality of posterior headbodies coupled to the anterior screws opposite the anterior cage and the anterior plate; and one or more connecting structures coupled to the plurality of posterior headbodies; wherein the three column spinal fixation implant provides structural stability to the spine of the patient across a first anterior column, a second middle column, and a third posterior column thereof.

Embodiments of apparatus, systems, and methods relating to spinal implants. In some embodiments, the spinal implant may comprise a first sidewall, a second sidewall opposite from the first sidewall, a pair of opposed frictional surfaces each comprising a plurality of raised structures, a first end wall joining the pair of opposed sidewall surfaces, and a second end wall joining the first sidewall and the second sidewall. The second end wall may comprise a recess formed by a first wall portion and a second wall portion arranged at an angle to one another to form a fish-tailed structure configured to be engaged with an inserter instrument. The interface between the recess and the inserter instrument may be configured to at least substantially eliminate any point or line contacts between the inserter instrument and the spinal implant during a flip maneuver of the spinal implant within an intervertebral space of a patient.

According to various embodiments, a spinal interbody spacer may include a proximal end and a distal end. The interbody spacer may be manufactured using a non-threadable material, or at least a material that is difficult to thread, such as a ceramic, a glass, or a porous material. Some embodiments may comprise a silicon nitride ceramic material. A cavity may be formed in the interbody spacer, such as in the proximal end. A material having desired properties lacking in the spacer, such as a threadable insert within a non-threadable spacer, may be inserted into the cavity. The threadable material may then be threaded in order to form a female-threaded insert within the otherwise non-threadable interbody spacer.

In some implementations, an implant body comprising a first, non-threadable, may be provided. A cavity may be formed in the implant body, after which an insert may be positioned within the cavity. Preferably, the insert comprises a second material distinct from the first material, wherein the second material has physical properties distinct from the first material. A female thread may then be formed within the insert, which may allow for threading an otherwise unthreadable, or relatively unthreadable, material.
