The invention primarily relates to fastening and stabilizing tissues, implants, and/or bondable materials, such as the fastening of a tissue and/or implant to a bondable material, the fastening of an implant to tissue, and/or the fastening of an implant to another implant. This may involve using an energy source to bond and/or mechanically to stabilize a tissue, an implant, a bondable material, and/or other biocompatible material. The invention may also relate to the use of an energy source to remove and/or install an implant and/or bondable material or to facilitate solidification and/or polymerization of bondable material.

Methods and devices for utilizing bondable materials

An electrical stimulation device for modulating a blood-brain barrier (BBB) of a subject includes at least one electrode configured to delivery electrical stimulation to the subject to stimulate a sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) of the subject, and a control unit in communication with the at least one electrode. The control unit generates a first electrical stimulation signal to the at least one electrode to apply a first electrical stimulation to the subject to stimulate a sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) of the subject thereby increasing porosity of the BBB from an initial porosity to an increased porosity, and generate, after said first electrical stimulation signal, a second electrical stimulation signal to the at least one electrode to apply a second electrical stimulation to the subject to stimulate the SPG of the subject thereby decreasing porosity of the BBB from the increased porosity to a decreased porosity that is less than the increased porosity.

The system includes a robotic mechanism for performing a procedure on a patient, an imaging device coupled to the robotic mechanism, the imaging device configured to provide image data of a site of interest, and a computing device coupled to the imaging device. The executable instructions, when executed by the processor, are configured to receive the image data of the site of interest, track motion patterns of the site of interest in the received image data, filter the received image data to remove line-of-sight restrictions therein and alter pixels therein based on the tracked motion patterns, and generate an output frame from the filtered image data. The system also includes a presentation interface device coupled to the computing device and configured to present the output frame for visualization of the site of interest.

In one aspect, an implant for replacing subject tissue includes a nonbiologic portion and a biologic portion grown on the nonbiologic portion. The biologic portion may be grown on the nonbiologic portion before being implanted in the subject. The nonbiologic portion may comprise a porous metal substrate (e.g., scaffolding). A tissue fixation system is provided for dynamic and rigid fixation of tissue. A fastener connected with an elongate fastening member, such as a cable, wire, suture, rod, or tube, is moved through a passage between opposite sides of tissue. A medical device is used to secure the fastener to the elongate fastening member. The medical device includes a tensioning mechanism for tensioning the elongate fastening member. As crimping mechanism is used to secure the fastener to the elongated member, where a cutting mechanism cut the excess portion of the elongated member.

Tissue fixation system and method

A surgical system and method of operating the same involve a surgical operating table is controllable and adjustable and that supports a patient thereon. A robotic system includes a moveable arm that supports and moves an end effector relative to a surgical site of the patient. Controller(s) coupled to the surgical operating table and to the robotic system associate a virtual boundary with respect to the surgical site and detect that the end effector is outside of the virtual boundary. In response to detection of the end effector being outside of the virtual boundary, the controller(s) command adjustment of the surgical operating table to reposition the surgical site and the virtual boundary to enable the end effector to be inside the virtual boundary.

An iontophoresis system includes a preloaded reservoir containing one or more doses of a therapeutic agent. As a result, the therapeutic agent does not have to be loaded into the reservoir prior to use. In such a system, the preloaded reservoir is generally disposable. Various components of the iontophoresis system can be combined with the reservoir in a disposable cartridge that is selectively connectable to other, reusable components of the iontophoresis system.
