A device and a method for visual monitoring and stabilization of an elongated metallic strip during continuous transport of the strip in a transport direction along a predetermined transport path, wherein the strip has been coated with a metallic layer by the strip having continuously passed through a bath of molten metal. The device includes an electromagnetic stabilizing device with at least one first pair of electromagnetic stabilizing means arranged on each side of the predetermined transport path, and a wiping device for wiping off superfluous molten metal from the strip by applying an air current in a line transversely of the transport direction of the strip and across essentially the whole width of the strip. A first image-reading apparatus takes images of the actual position of the strip in relation to the predetermined transport path. A second and third image-reading apparatus take images of the surface of the strip.

Device for stabilization and visual monitoring of an elongated metallic strip in a transport direction along a predetermined transport path

A method for vibration damping and shape control of a suspended metal strip during continuous transport in a processing facility in a steel rolling line or surface treating line in a steel mill, where the method comprises the steps: measuring distance to the strip by a plurality of non-contact sensors; and generating a strip profile from distance measurements; decomposing the strip profile to a combination of mode shapes; determining coefficients for the contribution from each mode shape to the total strip profile; and controlling the strip profile by a plurality of non-contact actuators based on a combination of mode shapes.

Mode based metal strip stabilizer

A device for stabilizing an elongated steel sheet when continuously transporting the steel sheet in a transport direction along a predetermined transport path. The device includes at least a first pair, a second pair and a third pair of electromagnets with at least one electromagnet on each side of the steel sheet. The electromagnets are adapted to stabilize the steel sheet with respect to the predetermined transport path. The first and second electromagnets are elongated in a direction essentially perpendicular to the transport direction. The first and second electromagnets are substantially arranged on each side of a longitudinal center line for the steel sheet. The center line is essentially parallel to the transport direction. The third electromagnet is arranged adjacent to the center line.

Device and a method for stabilizing a steel sheet

An air-core reactor with natural-air cooling of a winding includes first open spaces to let air flow through the winding in parallel with an axis of symmetry of the reactor and second open spaces crossing the first open spaces to let air flow through the winding angular to the axis of symmetry. A ventilation unit to produce a forced-air flow is arranged in such a way to the air-core reactor that a first part of the forced-air flow enters one of the first or second open spaces and at least one guiding element is arranged with respect to the crossing of the first and the second open spaces in such a way that the first part of the forced-air flow leaves and a second part of the forced-air flow enters the one of the first or second open spaces. A shielding element is arranged at another crossing of the first and the second open spaces so that substantially no air can leave or enter the one of the first or second open spaces.

Cooling system for a dry-type air-core reactor

A control system for regulating the flow of liquid metal in a device for casting a metal. A detector measures a process variable. A control unit evaluates data from the detector. At least one process parameter is automatically varied in order to optimize casting conditions. The detector measures a characteristic of the meniscus at at least two points on the meniscus instantaneously throughout the casting process.
