The disclosure described technology for presenting information via a mobile communication device in a transportation network, the transportation network modeled by segment and time slot. Information tagged by modeled segment, modeled time slot, and aggregate demographics of a target audience in the modeled segment and modeled time slot is received. The aggregate demographics include at least route context of transportation network users in the segment and time slot. The received information, including received tagged information, is published to a communication network of the mobile communication device. The published information is filtered for published information tagged with aggregate demographics corresponding to demographics of the mobile communication device&#x2014;demographics of the mobile communication device including at least a route context of the mobile communication device. The filtered information is presented via the mobile communication device.

Presenting information at one or more mobile communication devices in a transportation network

A route evaluation system includes a processor, a computer readable memory and a database that stores roadway data pertaining to a route. A first routine is arranged to obtain selected roadway data from the database. A second routine is arranged to determine a route from an origin to a destination based at least in part on the roadway data. A third routine is arranged to compute a set of navigation parameters for the route. A fourth routine is arranged to compare the set of navigation parameters to at least one vehicle maneuverability parameter of a vehicle.

Route evaluation system

An extensible Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver system is described. The receiver system isolates user application processing from time critical GPS acquisition and tracking processing in order to insure that GPS acquisition and tracking processing is timely performed. Thus user application processing can be developed without concern of conflict with GPS acquisition and tracking processing.

Extensible GPS receiver system

A method and system for dynamically targeting content (e.g., advertising) displayed by a moving vehicle according to the location and direction of travel of the vehicle. Multiple items of content are loaded onto the vehicle and updated at periodic intervals. Position information (such as Global Positioning System information) is used to determine the location and direction of travel of the vehicle. Using the vehicle's position and direction of travel, and perhaps the time of day, a particular item of content can be selected and displayed to an audience external to the vehicle. The amount of time each particular item of content is displayed can be measured and used as the basis for billing clients.

Vehicle-based dynamic advertising

A system providing a map and driving directions to a user of a user telephone for a remote location associated with a remote telephone number. The system includes the user telephone and a server connected through a telephone system. The user telephone includes a location number designator for designating a remote telephone number and an object decoder for decoding software objects such as a map object having map information for the area about the location of a remote address associated with the remote telephone number and a driving directions object having driving directions information for traveling to the remote location. The server includes a map object generator for generating the map object from the remote telephone number and a driving directions object generator for generating the driving directions object from the remote telephone number and user location determination information for a local address, a local telephone number, or geodetic coordinates provided by a geodetic location device in the user telephone.

Telephone providing directions to a location

A method and system for dynamically communicating content to an occupant of a moving vehicle according to the location and direction of travel of the vehicle. Position information (such as Global Positioning System information) is used to determine the location and the direction of travel of the vehicle. The vehicle provides its location and direction of travel to a central source (e.g., a server computer system). The central source provides to the vehicle content as a function of the vehicle's location and direction of travel as well as other factors such as time of day. The central source can also provide instructions prescribing when and where content is to be displayed. Using the vehicle's position and direction of travel as well as other factors such as the time of day, a particular item of content can be selected and communicated to an occupant of the vehicle.

Method and system for updating directed user-based dynamic advertising

A method and system for dynamically communicating content to an occupant of a moving vehicle according to the location and direction of travel of the vehicle. The direction of travel of the vehicle can also be determined from the position information. Directed user-based dynamic advertising

A system and method for determining which of a plurality of vehicles is able to respond most quickly to an event. In one embodiment, the present invention divides a geographic region into a plurality of geographic cells. The present automatic vehicle recommendation system then calculates a response time for each of the plurality of vehicles to travel from each of the geographic cells to every other of the geographic cells. The position of each of the plurality of vehicles is monitored by an automatic vehicle location (AVL) system. The present automatic vehicle recommendation system then determines which of the plurality of vehicles is able to respond most quickly to an event reported to a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system. The event is located within one of the geographic cells. The present invention then communicates to the CAD system which of the plurality of vehicles is able to respond most quickly to the reported event. Thus, the present invention provides a system which automatically recommends which of a plurality of vehicles can respond most quickly to an event, a system which can function in conjunction with an existing AVL or CAD system, and a system which reduces CAD system operator decision making processes.

Predictive model for automated vehicle recommendation system

A method and apparatus for providing orientation using a solar sighting device. In one embodiment, sighting of the sun and the moon and stars is used to determine orientation. The input from the solar sighting system is input into a processing system along with global positioning system data. Ephemerides stored in the processing system are used in conjunction with time signals from global positioning system data and position determined from global positioning system data so as to determine orientation. This orientation is then used to determine the direction of movement in a vehicle navigation system and is used to orient an optical sighting system.

Navigation system and orientation system incorporating solar sighting

A system and method for determining which of a plurality of travel paths is taken by vehicles through area in which the performance of an automatic vehicle location (AVL) system is reduced. In one embodiment, the present invention divides a geographic region into a plurality of signature zones which are further divided into a plurality of signature zone cells. The signature zone cells in each signature zone correspond to travel paths that pass through an area having structures that prevent reception of GPS signals or any area where GPS alone is not sufficient to discern travel path. The present automatic vehicle path determination system then calculates correlation values for positions in each signature zone cell that correspond to the travel paths that pass through the signature zone. The position of each vehicles is monitored by an automatic vehicle location (AVL) system. The present automatic vehicle path determination system then determines the path taken by each vehicle passing through the signature zone. The present invention then communicates to the CAD system the path taken by each vehicle. Thus, the present invention provides a system which automatically determines which path is taken by a vehicle entering an area having structures that prevent reception of GPS signals, a system which can function in conjunction with an existing AVL or CAD system, and a system which reduces CAD system operator decision making processes.

Vehicle guidance system using signature zones to detect travel path

A cellular telephone system embodiment of the present invention comprises a combination global positioning system (GPS) receiver and cellular transceiver and a data processing facility for converting latitude, longitude, velocity and bearing information provided by the GPS receiver into meaningful descriptors that are spoken with a speech synthesizer back to the cellular transceiver or an outsider who calls in an inquiry to a '1-900' service.
