One of the greatest frustrations in the kitchen for a person with limited hand mobility is the task of holding the body of a jar while removing the lid. The present invention solves this problem by allowing the handicapped person's body to become the third hand and hold the bottle in a rigid grip. The new device clips over the front of any standard kitchen drawer and traps the jar between a V shaped vertical support and the front of the counter top. The jar is held rigid when the user presses their body against the drawer. Now both hands are free to remove the jar lid by any common means.

Jar holder

A night light appliance that when plugged into a standard wall electrical outlet provides a means to direct many beams of light to specific places in the room. Extending from the appliance body are bendable arms with bright light emitting diodes mounted at the end of each arm. The plastic body of each light emitting diode contains a lens that forms the light into a narrow beam. This night light is particularly suitable to a conventional bathroom where an electrical outlet is normally found high on the wall and near the sink. Unlike conventional night lights that illuminate the area near the outlet, these light beams can be directed to appropriate places like the doorway, sink, and toilet. It is also useful in a hallway by directing light beams down the length of the hall rather than lighting the area around the electrical plug.

Adjustable beams night light

A low profile night light adapted to be positioned in a substantially level plane atop a floor has cylindrical sidewalls and apertures formed in the sidewalls at regularly spaced intervals. At least one light source such as an incandescent or fluorescent light or a light-emitting diode is positioned in registration with at least one of the apertures so that the at least one light source illuminates a fan-shaped area of a floor. A circular area is illuminated if a light source is placed into registration with each aperture. The night light may be positioned under a bed or other item of furniture and may be battery operated or connected to a wall outlet by an elongate power cord. Unlike a conventional night light that illuminates only an area near an electrical wall outlet, the novel night light can be positioned anywhere on a floor where a tripping hazard might exist.

Under the bed night light

A body worn transmitter and its associated portable monitoring receiver receiving global position signals, is provided with tamper detection to support twenty-four hour violation reporting from a subject under community supervision moves about the community. The body worn transmitter incorporates active radio frequency sensors to determine if the body worn transmitter has either been removed from the subject's body or the attachment strap has experienced tampering for the purpose of removal from the subject's body. A signal from the body worn transmitter is encrypted in order to prevent recording and retransmission of the body worn transmitter signal to an associated portable monitoring receiver for the purposes of masking body worn transmitter tampering or to make the body worn transmitter falsely appear in a different location. The body worn transmitter can be immersed in electrolyte solutions without generating a false tamper signal.

Tamper detection for body worn transmitter

A device for detecting the isoelectric end point in an isoelectric focusing system by electronically integrating, over successive time intervals, a characteristic of the electrical input to said zone as it varies with the increasing resistance of the zone. Most conveniently, the measured characteristic is the current through the zone which, under constant impressed voltage or power, asymptotically approaches a minimum value as the end point is reached. The measured characteristic is continually converted to a sequence of pulses indicative of the value of the characteristic. The end point is indicated when the difference between counts of these pulses over successive time intervals reaches a preselected value. At the end point, provision is made for replacement of the focusing voltage with a lower voltage to keep the ampholytes focused. A signal can be activated at the end point.

Device for isoelectric focusing

A controller maintains a constant desired fluid pressure in a fluid load driven by a variable flow fluid pump with a variable speed motor. A set point signal representing desired pressure and a signal from a pressure transducer representing actual pressure are applied to an error amplifier. The resulting error signal is applied through a variable gain stage to the motor control. The variable gain stage includes first and second variable gain amplifiers the first of which has a gain which is controlled inversely to pressure. The second variable gain amplifier has a gain which is controlled in proportion to flow. In this manner, the gain of the controller changes in inverse proportion to the restriction of the fluid load. This makes the performance of the controller independent of changes in the fluid load by keeping the total loop gain constant.
