A flow medium for assisting a resin to be transferred into a mold accommodating a layered structure of reinforced material is provided. The flow medium is configured such that when the resin is cured the flow medium becomes incorporated within a final composite component comprising the reinforced material embedded within the transferred and cured resin. A semifinished product comprising such a flow medium is provided and a method for producing a composite component by utilizing such a semifinished product is also provided.

Degradable flow medium for resin transfer molding processes

A composite structure having a number of thermoset resin containing elements and a number of thermoplastic elements and at least one interface between the thermoset resin containing elements and the thermoplastic elements is provided. The thermoset resin containing elements and the thermoplastic elements have functional groups at the interface which bond to each other when the composite structure is cured and the functional groups are independently selected from amines, carboxylic acids, acid anhydrides, oxiranes, and derivatives thereof in their non-bonded condition. Additionally, a blade having such a composite structure is provided.

Composite structure

A composite component for a wind turbine blade is provided. The composite component includes a stack of at least one fiber layer and a membrane which has a first surface and a second surface which is an opposite surface with respect to the first surface. The membrane is arranged with the first surface on top of the stack. The membrane is perforated with openings, wherein the membrane is formed in such a way that the openings are permeable for a fluid flowing along a first direction directing from the first surface to the second surface and impermeable for a fluid flowing along a second direction directing from the second surface to the first surface.

Perforated vacuum membrane for fibre reinforced laminates

A method for manufacturing a composite using an adhesive for attaching different layers of fiber material in a correct position is provided. The method includes at least partly dissolving the adhesive by wetting the adhesive with a thermoset resin containing components acting as solvents for the adhesive. The adhesive may include a thermoplastic adhesive with functional groups, which can react with a thermoset resin. Preferably, the adhesive can be made from the same base resin as the thermoset resin for optimal compatibility. Moreover, the adhesive can also be used to reduce the permeability of a material, for example of a fiber package for handling using a semi-vacuum.

Method for manufacturing a composite

A method for manufacturing a composite is provided herein, including laying at least one reinforcement layer onto the inner surface of a mold, positioning a degradable membrane onto the outermost reinforcement layer of the at least one reinforcement layer, applying suction between the inner surface of the mold and the degradable membrane to press the at least one reinforcement layer towards the inner surface of the mold, covering the degradable membrane with at least one vacuum film, generating a vacuum in the region between the vacuum film and the mold, injecting resin into this region by means of vacuum, and letting cure the resin, initiating a degradation of the degradable membrane by provoking a physical or chemical change of the membrane material after having generated a vacuum in the region between the vacuum film and the mold and before the resin has cured completely.
