The invention relates to a cyanide-free electrolyte being harmless to the environment and to health which makes feasible the production of black surface layers on light metals or on alloys of the latter, preferably titanium, remaining deeply-black and adhesive even after extreme changes in the ambient temperature and having nearly equal values of the optical absorptivity of radiation and of the thermal emission capability (the .alpha./.epsilon.-ratio is about 0.95) by means of the anodic oxidation by spark discharge (ANDF-method). These layers are absolutely X-amorphous and show, hence, an ideal optically isotropic behavior regarding the reflection of radiation. Due to their minmum evolution of gases they offer a high thermovacuum stability. The electrolyte consists of an ammoniacal solution of K.sub.2 H.sub.2 PO.sub.4 potassium dihydrogenphosphate and K.sub.2 CrO.sub.4 potassium chromate. The homogeneity of the optically black layers is ensured by not using fluoride ions and employing acetate ions. Such layers comprise titanium, chromium and copper in ratios of Cr:Ti=1: (1.9 to 2.2) and Cr:Cu=1:(0.8 to 1.3).

The active implant for use in medicine, such as for tooth implants or endoprosthesis For positions influencing the growth mechanisms of the bone and which remain in place for a long time. The active implant comprises a base and flexible structures therein provided with an oxide which contains growth stimulators and has a stable p-n junction.

The process for producing decorative coatings on metals is primarily used in the jewelry industry, in handicrafts, and in device construction according to the invention, matte, true-to-form decorative coatings with a homogenous thickness of 3 .mu.m to 30 .mu.m are provided means of an electrochemical and plasmachemical reaction using a pulse operation in aqueous electrolytes at voltage peaks of 250 V to 750 V, pulse times of 20 .mu.s to 2 ms, pulse frequencies of 35 Hz to 300 Hz, pulse currents from 20 A to 120 A, electrolyte temperatures between 318 K and 360 K, and average current densities from 0.1 A cm.sup.-2 to 1 A cm.sup.-2.

Method for the preparation of decorative coating on metals

A ceramic-coated metal implant is used in medicine as a hemiprosthesis or endoprosthesis. A metal implant base body having at least a surface comprised of a barrier layer metal is imparted with a surface roughness of 100-400 .mu.m by means of a mechanical and/or chemical and/or electrochemical pretreatment, thereby increasing the effective surface by more than 400%. Using anodic oxidation through spark discharge in aqueous electrolytes, an outer thickness of the roughened barrier layer metal is converted into a ceramic layer comprising oxides of the barrie layer metal and, optionally, a resorbable calcium phosphate. A maximum amount of calcium phosphate ceramic in the oxide layer faces an implantation bed of the implant. The calcium phosphate ceramic concentration decreases in the direction towards the phase boundary of the base body and oxide layer, so that bone can grow into the ceramic-coated metal implant and attain a high tenacity. In order to attain characteristics which are specific to bone, an after treatment in specific media, such as, for example, amino acids or antibiotics, can be performed. The implant can remain in place for a long period, is highly compatible with tissue and provides a large surface of bone contact, which automatically regulates bone growth in accordance with healing and growth processes.

Ceramic-coated metal implants

The invention relates to a stomatological implant in the form of selectively coated root canal pins, short pins, transfixion pins, replantation pins, of titanium, tantalum, niobium, zirconium and/or their alloys. The stomatological implant is used for long-term bacteria-proof closure of the root canal. Pursuant to the invention, up to three zones may be selectively put on the implant, meeting a variety of biological requirements.

The invention relates to a single-part, biocompatible hip-joint socket moorable without cement, which hip-joint socket can be used universally in combination with hip-joint endoprostheses and is especially suitable for the treatment of dysphasia hips. The joint socket is made of Ti or Ta metals forming a barrier layer or of alloys thereof and is provided with a perforated flange ring for screwing to the pelvic bone, as well as being provided over its entire surface with specific function characteristic oxide layers containing bioactivators. For the implantation of the hip-joint socket, there are not required any special operating instructions, and additional operations, such as pelvic osteotomies, plasties of the roof of the acetabulum and repeated operations are prevented or minimized.
