The present invention relates to a process for the production of coated proppants, proppants obtainable by such a process, uses thereof and processes using the proppants. The process for the production of coated proppants comprises the following steps: (a) mixing a proppant with a polyol component and an isocyanate component, wherein the polyol component consists of a phenolic resin and optionally one or more other hydroxy group&#x2014;containing compounds, wherein the isocyanate component consists of an isocyanate having at least 2 isocyanate groups and optionally one or more other isocyanate group&#x2014;containing compounds, and (b) curing the mixture obtained in step (a) by treatment with a catalyst; and (c) optionally repeating steps (a) and (b) one or more times, wherein the mixture obtained in the preceding step (b) or the proppant isolated therefrom is used as a proppant in step (a), wherein the polyol component in step (a) is the same as or different from the polyol component used in the previous step (a), and wherein the isocyanate component in step (a) is the same as or different from the isocyanate component used in the previous step (a).

Process for the production of coated proppants

Shaped plant growth nutrient products such as fertilizer products are provided as well as processes for producing and using such shaped plant growth products. The products comprise active plant growth ingredients mixed with a biodegradable, water dispersible, water soluble, thermoplastic polymeric binding agent. Preferably, the shaped products are in tablet form and the active plant growth ingredient comprises a fertilizer.

The invention relates to a coated granular material, wherein the coating is a resin, comprising the reaction producing of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of cardol, cardanol or derivatives or oligomers of these compounds with an isocyanate component, and to a method for the preparation thereof. Water-soluble granular materials are suitable as substances to be coated. Examples of granular substances are fertilizers, crop protection agents, insecticides, pesticides, fungicides, drying agents and mixtures thereof. The substance coated according to the invention has advantageous properties since the resin can be applied in a selective and economical manner to the substrates due to its low tackiness. In particular, coated fertilizer granulates are advantageous in that, with regard to the applied amount of fertilizer, they can provide more nutrients to the plant. In addition, fertilizers can be provided that can provide nutrients to the plant over a longer period of time and continuously and they have an exact and reproducible release behavior according to the type of plant to be treated. Furthermore, the polyol component of the coating can be obtained from the renewable raw material cashew nut oil.

Coated granular substances

The present invention relates to a hydroxy-functional polyester resin, which is obtainable by reaction of a composition, which contains (i) a low-molecular polyvalent alcohol having at least two hydroxyl groups per molecule, (ii) a polyether polyol, (iii) a monofunctional saturated aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid, and (iv) a polycarboxylic acid having at least two carboxyl groups. The invention further relates to a resin emulsion and a mother paint comprising an aqueous emulsion of the polyester resin, a two-component water-based paint system, comprising the resin emulsion or the mother paint and an isocyanate component as well as a method for the preparation of the water-based paint system.

A two-component water paint system that allows reliable formation of essentially bubble-free paint films having a thickness of at least 120 &mgr;m. The water paint system comprises an aqueous emulsion of a hydroxy-functional alkyd resin wherein the hydroxy-functional alkyd resin can be obtained from an oleic or fatty acid component, a polyvalent alcohol, a polyether polyol having a molecular weight of 400 to 8,000, a monobasic carboxylic acid and a polycarboxylic acid or the anhydride thereof.

Alkyl resin emulsions and utilization of the same

The invention relates to a method for producing a water-permeable covering on granular, water-soluble substances by coating them with a synthetic resin. The method of the invention uses a coating composition which comprises a polyisocyanate and a polyol component of a condensation product from phenols and aldehydes, a softener containing hydroxyl groups and optionally a diluent containing hydroxyl groups. The coating composition is cured at room temperature with an amine as a catalyst.
