In an apparatus of manufacturing diaphragms, a layer of a difficulty flowable metal powder is applied to a support, a wire net is rolled onto the powder layer and the latter is compacted at the same time and the metal powder is fired at 800.degree. to 1500.degree. C. in an oxidizing atmosphere. In order to impart to the diaphragms a constant thickness, strength and density, the metal powder is uniformly distributed and applied as regards its bulk volume to the support and the powder layer is moved under a distributing roller rotating opposite to the direction in which the powder is fed.

Apparatus for manufacturing diaphragms

In a process of producing composite materials consisting of sheet metal plates, metal strips and foils and provided with a skeleton surface structure, a layer of a metal powder which is difficultly flowable and consists of irregularly shaped particles is applied to a continuously moved metallic carrier layer and is bonded to said carrier layer by cold roll cladding and is sintered in a reducing atmosphere at temperatures of 600.degree. to 1000.degree. C. In order to produce composite materials in which the skeleton structure constitutes a layer that is of uniform thickness throughout the surface and is firmly bonded to the carrier layer, the metal powder is uniformly distributed and applied as regards its bulk volume using a distributing roller, which rotates opposite to the main direction of movement of the carrier layer, whereby a uniform thickness is obtained.

Process and apparatus for manufacturing diaphragms

For the production of a gaseous mixture contains chlorine dioxide and chlorine, alkali chlorate in an aqueous solution with acid is reacted in a reactor. The reactor comprises a plurality of superimposed reaction levels which are traversed by the solution from top to bottom. In the lower portion of the reactor the solution in which chlorate and acid have been depleted is reboiled in a reboiling chamber by an indirect heating at a temperature in the range from 100.degree. to 110.degree. C. The depleted solution is conducted from the reboiling chamber to a pressure chamber, in which a pressure of at least 1.2 bar is maintained. In the pressure chamber the solution is reboiled at temperatures from 110.degree. to 150.degree. C. and the vapors formed by the reboiling in the pressure chamber are conducted through the reboiling chamber for an indirect heating therein.

In an electrode assembly for gas-forming electrolyzers, particularly for monopolar membrane electrolyzers comprising vertical plate electrodes and opposite electrodes and a membrane between the plate electrode and the opposite electrode, the distribution of current in the membrane is improved and the voltage drop is decreased in that the plate electrodes are provided on that surface which faces the membrane with ante-electrodes, which consist of apertured, electrically conducting surface structures, which are electrically conductively connected to the plate electrodes and extend in planes which are parallel to the plate electrodes.
