A method of making a mechanical fastening strip and a reticulated mechanical fastening strip are disclosed. The method includes providing a backing having upstanding posts; providing interrupted slits through the backing, the interrupted slits being interrupted by at least one intact bridging region; spreading the slit backing to provide multiple strands separated from each other between at least some of the bridging regions to provide at least one opening; and fixing the multiple strands of the backing in a spread configuration. The reticulated mechanical fastening strip includes multiple strands of a backing attached to each other at bridging regions in the backing and separated from each other between the bridging regions to provide openings. Upstanding posts on each of the multiple strands have bases attached to the backing, and each of the multiple strands has a width that is greater than that of the bases of its attached upstanding posts.

Method of making a mechanical fastening strip and reticulated mechanical fastening strip therefrom

The closure tab comprises a backing layer having a region adapted to carry at least one mechanical fastening means and a region adapted to form a fingerlift portion, the fingerlift portion being free from any fastening means. A first mechanical fastening means is carried on the backing layer adjacent the fingerlift portion, and has a width w. A second mechanical fastening means is carried on the backing layer, and has a width wand is separated from the first mechanical fastening means by a separation distance d. The width wof the first mechanical fastening means is greater than the separation distance d, and the width wof the second mechanical fastening means is greater than the width wof the first mechanical fastening means.

Hygiene article closure tab

An elongate continuous material web is disclosed that includes a plurality of adjacent tabs arranged in a longitudinal direction of the web with connection regions between adjacent tabs. Each connection region includes three or more incisions that extend in the transverse direction of the web and are arranged in a manner such that at least one extensible connection member, extensible in the longitudinal direction of the web, is formed. At least one incision forms a side incision that travels through one longitudinal edge of the web, and at least one incision forms a further side incision that travels through the other longitudinal edge of the web. Also disclosed are a method for making such a web, a method for manufacturing a tab from such a web, a method for manufacturing an absorbent hygiene product with the help of such a web, and a cutting device to produce such a web.
