Methods of determining the risk of an adverse cardiovascular event or death in a mammal are provided which include determining in a biological sample obtained from the mammal the level of a combination of biomarkers selected from a glucose metabolism biomarker, a heart function biomarker, a renal function biomarker and at least one biomarker of cardiac injury. A score is allotted based on the level of each biomarker, and the cumulative score is indicative of the risk of an adverse cardiovascular event.

Method of determining risk of an adverse cardiac event

A method for determining the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) in a mammal following cardiac surgery is provided. The method comprises determining the sample value of IL-6 or hFABP concentration, or the ratio of IL-6 to IL-10, in a biological sample from the mammal, either prior to cardiac surgery or within 6 hours following surgery; comparing the sample value to a corresponding reference value; and determining that the mammal is at risk of acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery if the sample value is greater than the corresponding reference value.

Method and panel for determining acute kidney injury

A method of determining risk of heart failure in a mammal is provided comprising the steps of measuring in a biological sample obtained from a mammal the level of each of IL-6, MCP-1, IL-10, VEGF, and EGF biomarkers in the sample, wherein a positive result of at least three of said biomarkers is indicative of a risk of heart failure in the mammal.
