Portage storage containers including controlled evaporative cooling systems are described herein. In some embodiments, a portable container including an integral controlled evaporative cooling system includes: a storage region, an evaporative region adjacent to the storage region, a desiccant region adjacent to the outside of the container, and an insulation region positioned between the evaporative region and the desiccant region. A vapor conduit with an attached vapor control unit has a first end within the evaporative region and a second end within the desiccant region. In some embodiments, the controlled evaporative cooling systems are positioned in a radial configuration within the portable container.

Temperature-controlled portable cooling units

A method is provided for operating a dishwasher () in the form of a batch dishwasher, which has a treatment chamber () for accommodating washware to be cleaned. Provision is made, during an adsorption phase, for air to be conducted out of the treatment chamber () through a sorption unit (), which contains a reversibly dehydratable dry material, in such a way that the dry material absorbs moisture from the air stream, wherein the air is then returned to the treatment chamber (). Provision is further made, during a desorption phase, for the dry material of the sorption unit () to be heated in such a way that moisture is desorbed from the dry material as steam. During the desorption phase, the sorption unit () is subjected to forced ventilation only to such an extent that recondensation of desorbed steam in the sorption unit () itself is effectively prevented.

A method and devices for the solidification of aqueous substances by the direct evaporation of water from the substance and the sorption of the water vapor in a sorption agent in a vacuum system, wherein the aqueous substance and the sorption agent are evacuated from the surrounding pressure level to a system pressure of below 5 mbar (absolute) by means of a vacuum pump and the nonsorbable gases thereby suctioned by the vacuum pump are suctioned through the sorption agent. Apparatus and method for the cooling of a liquid in a container

Apparatus for cooling a medium within a container includes a container having a chamber with a medium to be cooled located therein. The container being capable of transferring heat energy from an interior surface of the container wall to an exterior surface. The apparatus also includes an evaporation unit having liquid operating medium which is in contact with the exterior surface of the container and a sorption medium container containing sorption medium coupled to the evaporation unit. The sorption medium unit being capable of adsorbing and desorbing operating medium vapor provided by the operating medium. When the liquid operating medium evaporates and is adsorbed by the sorption medium, additional operating medium evaporates causing the operating medium temperature to decrease. When the temperature of the liquid operating medium falls below the temperature of the liquid medium within the container, heat energy is transferred through the container wall from the liquid medium to the operating medium, causing the temperature of the container medium to decrease.

Apparatus for cooling a medium within a container

A sorption method and sorption medium container arrangement utilizes two sorption medium containers and at least one heat exchanger for use with each sorption medium container for absorbing or emitting heat. Each sorption medium container is filled with a sorption medium that can adsorb an operating medium by releasing heat and can desorb or expel the operating medium by absorbing heat. The sorption medium container arrangement also includes steam sources or steam troughs which are connected to the sorption medium containers. The steam source or trough is designed to provide or receive operating medium steam. A heat carrier medium flows through the heat exchanger of the first sorption medium container during a first partial operation phase wherein the sorption medium is cooled and the first sorption medium container is heated. The operating medium is subsequently heated by a heater and flows through the heat exchanger of the second sorption medium container wherein the operating medium cools itself by releasing heat to the sorption medium. During a second partial operating phase, the operating medium is initially provided to the second sorption medium container, whose sorption medium is cooled and the sorption medium container is heated. Subsequently the operating medium is heated by the heater and thereafter flows through the heat exchanger of the first sorption medium container wherein the operating medium is cooled and the sorption medium is heated.

An ice maker utilizing the sorption principle having an air tight sorption container which stores a solid sorption medium. A vacuum pump is connected to the sorption container and is operatively coupled to an icing container. The icing container is clamped to a flat sealing surface. The vapor contained in the icing container is removed by the vacuum pump causing a decrease in vapor pressure. An aqueous liquid is fed through a closeable feeding line from a supply container to the icing container so that the aqueous liquid solidifies within the icing container.
