A dynamoelectric machine having a cooling system for removing heat uniformly about the machine. The machine includes a cooling jacket defining a flow path for liquid coolant which extends circumferentially of the machine and which reduces loss of coolant pressure. An endshield of the machine is configured for holding electronic components in arrangement integrated with the machine. The endshield has a flow passage for receiving the coolant to remove heat from the electronic components. The flow passage of the endshield and the flow path of the cooling jacket are serially arranged so that the coolant removes heat sequentially from the electronic components and a stator of the machine.

A dynamoelectric device cooling air flow baffle is given a shape that increases its heat transfer and cooling efficiency by providing the baffle with an annular concave surface around its outer perimeter edge that redirects air flow radially inwardly around stator winding end turns while reducing separation of the air flow and also directs the cooling air flow around an inner edge of a center hole of the baffle while reducing separation of the air flow and increasing air flow velocity, thereby efficiently cooling the stator assembly of the dynamoelectric device.

The cooling of an electric motor is optimized by the housing of the motor being provided with inlet vent holes that are positioned and sized to increase a total air flow rate through the housing interior and by the interior surface of the housing being shaped to conform to the stator winding end turns of the motor to direct a flow of cooling air around a greater surface area of the winding end turns before being exhausted through outlet vent holes of the housing.

Optimized thermal system for an electric motor

A cooling jacket for cooling the stator of an electric machine. The jacket includes a cooling jacket body having a cylindric inner surface defining a cavity for receiving the stator of a motor, axial flow passages in the body for the flow of a coolant, and end caps connected to opposite ends of the body. Coolant flows through an inlet in one of the end caps and is directed through the flow passages along at least one serpentine path to an outlet. Each flow passage has a cross sectional shape defined entirely by three or more substantially linear sides.

Cooling jacket for electric machines

A deep well submersible pump has a pump housing containing an electric motor. The motor is radially spaced from the pump housing interior surface defining an annular channel through the pump housing from an inlet opening to an outlet opening of the housing. The motor is mounted on a cowling that has an exterior surface. A plurality of deswirler blades extend between the pump housing interior surface and the cowling exterior surface. As the deswirler blades extend through the housing interior, a spacing between the-cowling exterior surface and the housing interior surface expands radially. The cowling exterior surface and the pump housing interior surface define an annular liquid flow path that is first directed radially outward from the inlet opening and then curves around the cowling and is directed axially through the deswirler blades to the annular channel between the motor and the pump housing interior surface. An impeller mounted on the motor shaft has axially spaced inner and outer disks with a plurality of radiating vanes between the disks. The outer disk has a center hole with an annular rim surface in sealing engagement with the inlet cap and a peripheral surface in sealing engagement with the inlet cap. The impeller inner disk has a peripheral surface in sealing engagement with the cowling. Rotation of the impeller draws liquid through the inlet cap opening and pushes the liquid through the pump flow path.

Deep well submersible pump

A two sided radial fan draws cooling air into axially opposite ends of a dynamoelectric device drawing the flow of air into one axial end of the device and directing the flow of air over the device exterior surface, and drawing a second flow of air into an opposite axial end of the device and through the interior of the device before redirecting the second flow of air over the exterior of the device. The two sided fan thereby provides greater cooling efficiency to the device without significantly increasing the size of the fan or the device and without significantly increasing the costs or adding additional components to the device construction.

A fan has a plurality of blades that are each configured to induce radial-flow adjacent the trailing edge of the blade while also being configured to induce both radial-flow and axial-flow near the base end of the blade. This is achieved by splitting each of the blades into two sections and orienting the chord-line of the blades near the hub of the fan at angle relative to the axis of the hub while maintaining the chord-line of the blades parallel to the axis near the trailing edges of the blades. This results in an increased ability of the fan to draw air in axially as compared to conventional radial-flow fans. The fan of the preferred embodiment also makes use of an annular ring joining the trailing edges of the blades. The ring has axially opposite sides that taper toward one another as the ring extends radially inward and acts as a diverter to channel air to axially opposite sides of an annular obstruction in the flow path of air being exhausted from the fan, thereby further increasing the fan's efficiency.

Split blade radial fan

A cooling jacket assembly for cooling the stator of an electric machine. The assembly includes an annular cooling jacket body comprising coaxial inner and outer cylindric shells, heat transfer fins in the annular space between the inner and outer shells defining coolant flow channels, and end caps connected to opposite ends of the inner and outer shells. Coolant flows through an inlet in one of the end caps and is directed through the flow channels along at least one serpentine path to an outlet. The serpentine path comprises a plurality of parallel sections extending axially of the cooling jacket body. In one aspect of the invention, each section of the serpentine path comprises a group of two or more flow channels defined by a plurality of adjacent fins.
