Described herein are systems and methods of for measuring and assuring performance in networked applications where edge computing is utilized, which may comprise determining or improving network and computational performance by the use of edge probing. Edge probing enables rapid measurement and assessment of networking and computational performance, where performance comprises speed latency, for a device using an edge compute node. Edge probing can be used to assess performance of and assign converged networking and computing infrastructure to applications and devices.

Timestamping further allows customized data collection techniques, where a DSL line can be measured or monitored at intervals whose frequency depends on the line's stability. Moreover, data parameter read and control parameter write operations are presented in conjunction with the use of timestamping. Also, control and operation of a DSL system is enhanced by implementing bit-loading that minimizes, eliminates or otherwise mitigates the amount by which the SNR margin per tone exceeds a maximum SNR margin quantity, where such bit-loading can be selected through an appropriate interface.

A video stream DSL analyzer receives at least non-physical layer management data and physical layer management data and in response generates metric information. The generated metric information is used to characterize the performance of the video stream information and diagnose any problems if necessary. In response to the metric information, the video stream DSL analyzer changes one or more DSL configuration(s) in order to improve performance.

A Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Management Center (DMC) coupled to a DSL network includes a data collection module that receives information regarding the DSL network from a plurality of sources. An analysis module is coupled to the data collection module to analyze the received information and issue a command for one or more of a plurality of DSL performance enhancement devices to optimize their operation. A command signal generation module is coupled to the analysis module to receive the issued command from the analysis module and generate a corresponding command signal for transmission to one or more of the DSL performance enhancement devices.

Method and apparatus for DSL performance enhancement in a DSL network

An apparatus comprises at least one vectoring engine and a cross-connect coupled to the vectoring engine. The cross-connect is to couple with each of a plurality of customer premises equipment (CPE) devices via a respective DSL loop. An interface is to receive instructions for the cross-connect to couple the vectoring engine to a nonoverlapping subset of the CPE devices via the respective DSL loops. The interface is further to receive instructions for the vectoring engine to apply vectoring to the DSL loop via which to couple one of the CPE devices to the cross-connect.

Systems, methods, and apparatuses for implementing a DSL system

An alternate communications device is coupled to a broadband CPE in broadband customer premises equipment (CPE). The broadband CPE is coupled to a broadband communication network management device via a primary communication path. The alternate communications device is further coupled to the broadband communication network management device via an alternate communication path. The alternate communications device is to provide diagnostic and configuration information about a broadband connection to the broadband communication network management device via the alternate communication path when the broadband CPE is unable to provide such via the broadband connection. The broadband communication network management device is to perform analysis on this information. The alternate communications device is to receive from the broadband communication network management device, via the alternate communication path, new diagnostic information and new configuration information about the broadband connection responsive to the broadband communication network management device performing the analysis.

Method and apparatus for diagnosing and configuring a broadband connection via an alternate communication path

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a controller to: determine crosstalk coupling characteristics between a plurality of lines of a digital subscriber line system connected to a plurality of modems based on a transition between a full power mode and one or more other modes, and provide the determined crosstalk coupling characteristics to one or more of the plurality of modems for performance of at least one of pre-coding a transmitted signal and processing a received signal along a line of the plurality of lines, where the pre-coding and processing is performed based at least in part on the determined crosstalk coupling characteristics, and where the pre-coding of the transmitted signal and the processing of the received signal reduce effects of fluctuating crosstalk. Method and apparatus for reducing noise in a communication system

Methods, apparatus and computer program products allow a user of DSL or the like to implement user preferences to the extent feasible in light of operational limits and conditions. In some embodiments, an operational profile is imposed on the user. User preference data is evaluated to determine the extent to which one or more user preferences can be implemented in light of the operational profile. One or more controllers can assist in collecting user preference data, evaluating the user preference data, operational data and other data and information, and implementing user preferences as feasible. Evaluation of the user preference data and operational profile and/or data can include considering the compatibility of the user's preferences and the operational profile and/or data. Controllers assisting users can include a local controller at the user's location, one or more upstream-end local controllers, one or more remote location controllers, and/or one or more other downstream-end device controllers at locations other than the user's location. Data and information can be shared among the various controllers, either using the DSL system itself or using a proprietary or other alternative data system.
