A system and/or method automatically identifies one or more vascular regions in a medical image or set of medical images. For example, the system/method may automatically identify vascular structures as belonging to the left carotid, right carotid, and/or basilar vascular regions in the head. The system/method takes as input the medical image(s) and automatically identifies one or more vascular regions. The system/method may also automatically generate MIP renderings of the identified region or regions.

A system and method for providing a reusable connection handle to managed connections within transactions, or other scoping mechanisms, preferably in a Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) software architecture on a computer platform. The system and method further allows for multiple connection handles to share the same managed connection within, but not outside of, the confines of the scoping mechanism. The connection handle is selectively disassociated from a managed connection whereby the connection handle enters a disassociated state, and then is selectively reassociated with a managed connection within the software architecture when desired.

An object oriented thread context manager, a method and computer program product are provided for object oriented thread context management. A context manager is provided for managing a plurality of ContextControl objects. Each ContextControl object comprises a plurality of methods for creating and suspending context on a thread for a target object. When a method request for a target object is received at a server process, the server process calls a thread manager requesting a thread. The thread manager calls the context manager for associating context with a current thread for the method request. Responsive to the context manager providing associated context with the current thread, the thread manager dispatches the method request for the target object. The thread manager calls the context manager for disassociating context with the current thread.

In brief, an object oriented thread context manager, a method and computer program product are provided for object oriented thread context management, particularly for relational databases working with distributed transactions. A context manager is provided for managing a plurality of ContextControl objects. Each ContextControl object comprises a plurality of methods for creating, resuming and suspending context on a thread for a target object. A ContextCoordinator class is provided for managing calls to the plurality of ContextControl objects. A ContextHandleList is provided for storing context information for the ContextControl objects. A specialized ContextCoordinator is provided for managing calls to a specialized ones of the ContextControl objects. A DatabaseContextCoordinator is an example of the specialized ContextCoordinator. The specialized ones of the ContextControl objects are registered and unregistered with the ContextCoordinator class and then registered DatabaseContextCoordinator.

According to the present invention, an externalization service method for managing objects and state data related to the objects is disclosed. The present invention provides a method whereby objects with references to other objects can be stored in streams and can be referenced across processes, while maintaining the original object characteristics and relationships. The present invention is an extension to the existing Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) specification for externalization and can manage objects without the inherent limitations of known externalization methods. The objects of the present invention are managed by an object reference manager (reference manager) which is capable of storing and using state data and other object-related data to manage objects and the references to other objects. This information includes all information that is necessary to restore the object's characteristics, security access, state data, etc. when the object is recreated. Along with the improved functionality of the reference manager, several new methods are defined to implement improved externalization techniques for managing objects and their references.
