A method for vehicle-to-vehicle communication is disclosed. The method includes establishing a communication connection between the first vehicle and the second vehicle, receiving one or more communications from the second vehicle, determining, by the first vehicle, vehicle parameter targets based on the one or more communications, communicating the vehicle parameter targets and one or more vehicle device commands to the second vehicle, and determining at least one vehicle control signal for the second vehicle based on the vehicle parameter targets and the one or more vehicle device commands.

Methods and systems for vehicle-to-vehicle communication

A method for shifting between a low speed range and a high speed range for a two-speed transfer case in a four-wheel drive vehicle includes determining a target transmission gear ratio and a desired transfer case range based on the current vehicle speed and the initial transfer case range. The transmission is shifted to the target transmission gear ratio when it is determined that the vehicle speed is in an appropriate range. The transfer case input torque is reduced to a minimum value, and the transfer case is shifted to neutral. The method further includes adjusting the engine speed and transmission gear setting to control the transmission output shaft speed to a desired range. The transfer case is shifted from neutral to the desired transfer case range when the transmission output shaft speed is within the desired range of transmission output shaft speed.

Method for a synchronous range shift on an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case with an electronically controlled engine and transmission

A method of determining a current operating range of a transfer case includes continuously calculating current Combined Drive Ratio (CDR), and categorizing the current CDR into one of a pre-determined number of expected CDRs. Counters are used to track when the current CDR is identified as an expected CDR. The different counters are then analyzed using simple mathematical operations to identify which gear ratio the transfer case is currently operating in.

Method of determining a current operating range of a transfer case

An event data recorder (EDR) system includes an event identification module, a parameter selection module, and an event recorder module. The event identification module identifies occurrences of a first event and second event of M predetermined events based on operating conditions of an automotive vehicle. The parameter selection module selects a first set of parameters to record from N predetermined parameters when the first event occurs. The parameter selection module selects a second set of parameters to record from the N predetermined parameters when the second event occurs. The event recorder module records data corresponding to the first set of parameters when the first event occurs and records data corresponding to the second set of parameters when the second event occurs. M and N are integers greater than 1 and the first set includes at least one parameter that is different from the parameters included in the second set.

A method for diagnosing a device of a vehicle, includes: generating samples of a parameter of the device; indicating whether each of the samples passed or failed based on comparisons of the samples with one of a predetermined value and a predetermined range; tracking a first number of consecutive samples compared, a second number of the first number of samples that failed, a third number of the first number of samples that failed consecutively, and a fourth number of a last predetermined number of samples compared that failed; selecting one of a normal control mode, a temporary default action mode and a permanent default action mode based on the first, second, third, and fourth numbers; and selectively setting a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) in memory when in the permanent default action mode.

Diagnostic system and method for processing continuous and intermittent faults

A diagnostic system diagnoses a device and includes fault declaring module that selects one of a normal control mode, a temporary default action and a permanent default action. A counter module tracks a first number of successive test samples, a second number of failed samples that occur during the successive test samples, a third number of successive failed samples, a fourth number of failed samples, and a fifth number of samples since a last failed sample. The fault declaring module transitions to a temporary default action when at least one of the third number of successive failed samples is greater than a first value and the fourth number of failed samples is greater than a second value. The fault declaring module transitions to a permanent default action that is different than the temporary default action when the second number of failed samples is greater than a third value.

A system and method for retrieving and displaying data from an onboard memory of an electronic control unit in a vehicle is disclosed. The electronic control unit includes at least one parameter identifier that defines an address for a first data structure. The first data structure includes information on the amount and location of the data in the nonvolatile memory, as well as a version document number corresponding to a version document stored in a scan tool. The scan tool can access the parameter identifier and onboard data by the entry of an identifier number. The retrieved data is inserted into the version document for display.

System and method for retrieving and displaying vehicle control unit data

A system and method are provided for analyzing a motor vehicle operating problem. A number of tests are provided for the selected system or component to determine the cause of the problem. One of the tests are selected, and instructions are displayed for the selected test. A result is input for the selected test and it is determined whether the result indicates the problem was experienced during the test. If the problem was not experienced and that the test did not experience a failure, the state of the faults that are detectable by the test are set to substantially &ldquo;Possible Intermittent Fault&rdquo;.

A method for testing the application of a torque converter clutch in vehicle having an electronic control unit and a driveline system including an engine, a transmission, a torque converter operating to transfer engine torque to the transmission, a torque converter clutch having an applied state, and a solenoid to change the commanded apply state of the clutch. The test includes determining the state of the solenoid, determining the applied state of the clutch, commanding a change in the applied state of the clutch, and determining the time for the clutch to change applied state.
