A fixed window assembly is adapted to be fixedly secured to a door of a motor vehicle having a retractable window pane. The fixed window assembly includes a fixed window pane having an outer periphery. A division post extends along a portion of the outer periphery of the fixed window pane. A glass run is fixedly secured to the division post opposite of the fixed window pane for receiving the retractable window pane. The glass run is formed from a first moldable material. An encapsulation is molded to the fixed window pane to secure the division post thereto. The encapsulation is formed from a second moldable material that is different from the first moldable material.

Window surround for a motor vehicle

An integrated reveal molding is provided for a motor vehicle door frame having a header section defining a window opening. The integrated reveal molding includes an upper reveal adapted to be mounted to the header section. The upper reveal includes a reveal surface disposed outboard of the header section. A reveal is secured along the reveal surface. The integrated reveal molding also includes a glass run co-extruded with the upper reveal. The glass run includes a window receiving channel for engagement with a window pane. The integrated reveal molding is formed as an extruded member from thermoplastic vulcanisate (TPV) of different durometer values to meet varying flexibility and durability requirements.

A window surround module () for installation to the perimeter of a window opening () in a motor vehicle door panel () comprises individual window surround components that are fabricated into a unitary structure. The individual components include two or more of a header molding (), a bell molding (), a mirror base (), a B-pillar trim piece (), a glass run channel (), a wire harness (), a wire harness support (), seals (), a mirror (), and a window (). At least some of the components are molded together to form a unit to which other components are mounted.

A process for the production of a glass run channel is provided wherein the glass run channel has a S-shaped core of a polymeric material, onto which glass and/or frame sealing components are co-extruded. Preferably, a slip agent coating is applied shortly after the sealing components are added so that a completely polymeric glass run channel is produced in a single operation. The polymeric glass run channel is lighter, less expensive and more easily recycled than the prior art glass run channels.

A process for forming linear, thermoplastic weatherseals into a bend position is provided which avoids buckling of the thinner surfaces of the weatherseal material. The process involves the use of a support insert which supports the thinner surfaces during the bending operation, and thus assists in preventing the deformation of the thinner weatherseal surfaces. The support is preferable constructed of a material which is unaffected by temperatures higher than the heat-deformation temperature used to set the weatherseal material into a bent configuration, and thus, the support insert retains its linear shape when removed from the bending press, and therefore, can be reused. An improved process for manufacturing bent thermoplastic weatherseal material results.

Process for fabricating weatherseals

The invention provides improvements to an external vehicle mirror assembly. The pivot point is located at an outboard side of the mirror housing. The power pack is mounted at an inboard side of the mirror housing. The mirror case is molded with no obstructions in a recessed base for holding the mirror, and the pivotable socket is molded at one side of the mirror case. The mirror assembly is mounted to the vehicle through an improved mounting mechanism. Trim seals seal the mirror assembly to the vehicle with improved wind noise, moisture, and dust resistance, and fewer components.

The present invention relates to a door assembly which has a lower door assembly and an upper door assembly, and the upper door assembly and a lower door assembly can be connected. In addition, the upper door assembly is at least partially made of composite materials. Thus, the upper door assembly can be completely constructed with composite materials or it can be constructed of a hybrid material which consists of composite materials and steel. Furthermore, the door assembly can have trim molding integrated into the upper door assembly during the molding process. In the alternative, the door assembly could have an upper door assembly where attachment areas are molded into the upper door assembly which will allow for trim molding to be easily attached to the upper door assembly.

A method is provided for manufacturing an upper reveal that conforms to a curved portion of a window opening of a motor vehicle door frame. The upper reveal is formed from TPV and a carrier. The method includes the steps of: co-extruding the TPV with the carrier; curing the TPV to form the upper reveal; heating the upper reveal to a temperature greater than a heat deformation temperature of the TPV; and bending the upper reveal to conform to the curved portion of the window opening of the motor vehicle door frame.

A decorative molding assembly for a vehicle door frame having a window opening for a transitional window pane moveable between open and closed positions. The molding assembly includes a window seal mounted to the door frame and having a channel for selective sealing engagement with the window pane. A molding strip has an arm mating with the window seal and faces outward to provide an appealing appearance. A retaining member engages the arm of the molding strip and the window seal to secure the molding strip and the window seal within the window opening of the door frame such that the window pane is securely sealed within the window opening when the window pane is in the closed position.

A retaining member engages the arm of the molding strip and the window door seal to secure the molding strip and the window door seal within the window opening of the door frame such that the window pane is securely sealed within the window opening when the window pane is in the closed position.
