In one implementation, data associated with user identities within an electronic social networking platform is extracted from the electronic social networking platform. A subset of these user identities may have endorsed a particular entity within the electronic social networking platform, and a segment of user identities within this subset may be identified. Content then may be delivered to at least some of the user identities within the segment.

Targeted content delivery

Data associated with user identities within an electronic social networking platform is extracted from the electronic social networking platform. A request is received to filter the user identities based on a specified value for a characteristic. Based on data associated with the user identities that was extracted from the electronic social networking platform, a subset of the user identities is identified who have the specified value for the characteristic. An indication of content to be delivered to the identified subset of user identities is received. As a consequence, the content is delivered to at least some of the user identities within the identified subset of user identities.

This specification describes technologies relating to identification of interests of a subgroup of a larger group of users. One aspect of the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods that include receiving data reflecting characteristics for users in a set of users of a social networking platform, wherein the data reflects endorsements of pages hosted on the social networking platform. A subset of the users within the set is identified by excluding users in the set with characteristics that do not match filter criteria. For each of some of the pages endorsed by members of the subset, a measure of the likelihood of a user in the subset endorsing the page relative to the likelihood of other users in the set endorsing the page is calculated. One or more content items are selected based on the measures and data specifying the selected content items is transmitted.

Identification of subgroup interests

In one implementation, data associated with user identities is extracted from an electronic social networking platform. Based on the extracted data, at least some of the user identities are classified as fitting one or more of multiple different profiles. A first subset of user identities classified as fitting a first profile is identified. A second subset of user identities classified as fitting a second profile is identified. In addition, values for a particular characteristic associated with user identities identified as belonging to the first subset are identified, and values for the particular characteristic associated with user identities identified as belonging to the second subset are identified. A display then is caused that reflects the identified values for the particular characteristic associated with user identities identified as belonging to the first subset and the identified values for the particular characteristic associated with user identities identified as belonging to the second subset.

Comparing subsets of user identities of a social networking platform

In one implementation, data that reveals a user identity's engagement with an electronic social networking platform is extracted from the electronic social networking platform. A numeric measure of the user identity's engagement with the platform then is calculated based on the extracted data.

Measuring engagement with a social networking platform

In one implementation, user identities who are members of a particular user identity's social network are identified. In addition, data is accessed that reveals locations that at least some of the identified other user identities have registered with the platform as locations that they have visited. A view of an aggregation of at least some of the locations where other user identities who are members of the particular user identity's social network have registered that they have visited is made available for display. In another implementation, data is accessed that reveals residence information for user identities who are members of a particular user identity's social network. Thereafter, a view of an aggregation of at least some of the residence information for the other user identities who are members of the particular user identity's social network is made available for display.
