Lighting devices comprising first, second and third strings of solid state lighting devices. One aspect further comprises means for supplying first fixed current through the first string, means for supplying second fixed current through the second string, and means for supplying current through the third string. In a second aspect, the first and second strings emit light within a specific area on a 1931 CIE Chromaticity Diagram, and the third string emits light of dominant wavelength 600-640 nm. A third aspect further comprises a power line and a power supply configured to supply a first and second fixed currents through the first and second strings, respectively, and supply a current to the third string. A method of making a lighting device, comprising measuring color output, adjusting current to first, second and/or third strings, and permanently setting currents to the first and second strings.

Solid state lighting devices and methods of manufacturing the same

A circuit for altering a level of impedance presented to a power supply including a power supply line includes an energy dissipating circuit, a detection circuit configured to generate a control signal indicative of a power consumption level in a load circuit coupled to the power supply line, and an activation circuit configured to controllably couple the energy dissipating circuit to the power supply line in response to the control signal. Methods of operating a solid state lighting apparatus including a power supply and a solid state lighting device coupled to the power supply include detecting a level of power consumption by the solid state lighting device, and coupling an energy dissipating circuit to the power supply in response to the level of power consumption by the solid state lighting device falling below a threshold level.

Dynamic loading of power supplies

If the emitters are illuminated, the sensor is exposed to combined light from the groups, and senses only a portion of the combined light. A circuit includes a detector configured to detect a state of a power supply including an energy storage component and to generate a control signal responsive to the state of the power supply, a dissipating component, and a switch configured to controllably couple the dissipating component to the energy storage component in response to the control signal output by the detector. Methods of operating a power supply including an energy storage component and a dissipating component are disclosed. The methods include monitoring the power supply to determine if the power supply may be active, and, in response to determining that the power supply may be inactive, coupling the dissipating component to the energy storage component to dissipate energy from the energy storage component.

Stored energy dissipating circuits and methods for switched mode power supplies

There is provided a lighting control circuit comprising a duty cycle detection circuit, an averaging circuit, a waveform generator and a comparator circuit. The duty cycle detection circuit generates a first periodic waveform having a duty cycle and frequency corresponding to an input waveform duty cycle and frequency. The averaging circuit generates a first signal having a voltage level corresponding to the duty cycle of the first periodic waveform. The waveform generator outputs a second periodic waveform having a frequency different from the input waveform frequency. The comparator circuit compares the second periodic waveform with the first signal to generate an output waveform having a duty cycle corresponding to the input waveform duty cycle and a frequency corresponding to the frequency of the second periodic waveform. A power supply, comprising a boost converter which provides voltage to a first load, and a flyback converter which provides voltage to a second load and which utilizes an inductive element of the boost converter as a primary winding of a transformer of the flyback converter. A lighting control circuit comprises a dimming level detection circuit, a waveform generator and a comparator circuit. The dimming level detection circuit is configurable to generate a first voltage level signal corresponding to a selected one of at least two different types of dimming signals selected from among an AC phase cut dimming signal, a DC voltage level dimming signal or a PWM dimming signal. The waveform generator is configured to output a periodic waveform. A lighting device, comprising a light engine housing, a light engine comprising one or more solid state light emitters, a diffuser and an energy forwarding element which receives AC voltage and supplies power to the light engine. The light engine housing comprises an electrical connection region which is engageable with an electricity supply device. The light engine housing comprises a first compartment, in which the light engine is positioned and a second compartment. The light engine housing comprises a flange region. The first compartment has an opening which is covered by the diffuser. The lighting device can be mounted such the only elements which are visible from a room are the flange region, a front side of the diffuser and any portion of the first compartment which is between the opening and the open end of the light engine housing. The light engine housing can comprise heat-dissipating fins.

Self-ballasted solid state lighting devices

A circuit for a lighting device comprises a sub-circuit which comprises a series current regulator and a group of solid state light emitters. The current regulator and the solid state light emitters are arranged in series. In some embodiments, the circuit further comprises a fan electrically connected in series in the sub-circuit. In some embodiments, the circuit further comprises a second sub-circuit which comprises a second series current regulator and a second group of solid state light emitters, the first sub-circuit and the second sub-circuit being arranged in parallel. In some embodiments, an anode of the series current regulator is electrically connected to a cathode of one of the solid state light emitters. Also, methods of lighting wherein a sum of voltage drops across light emitters and a current regulator is in the range of from 1.2 to 1.6 times the line voltage.
