A complex of transition metal Ti, Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Mn, Ta, Rh, Y, Sc, Ru, Pd, Zr, Hf, V or Nb and a mono-, bi-, tri-, or tetra-dentate ligand, wherein at least one of the donor atoms of the ligand is a nitrogen atom N with a 5-membered heterocyclic substituent joined to the N by a carbon atom. The complex is preferably Formula (I) wherein R&#x2014;N-G-Xis a bi-, tri, or tetra-dentate ligand, N is joined to G by an imine linkage; G is a bridging group which can contain a third or fourth donor atom; Xis &#x2014;O or &#x2014;S if the X-M bond is covalent, or if the X-M bond is dative Xis &#x2550;S, &#x2014;PRR, &#x2014;PRR, &#x2550;NR, &#x2550;NR, &#x2014;NRRor &#x2014;NRR; Rand Rare 5-membered heterocyclic substituents joined to the nitrogen (or phosphorus) atoms via a carbon atom: Rand Rare hydrocarbyl or heterohydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl or aryl substituent; X represents an atom or group covalently or ionically bonded to the transition metal M: L is a group datively bound to M, and n is from 0 to 5; q is 1 or 2. The complexes find use as polymerisation catalysts, preferably with an activator, e.g. MAO 

Polymerisation catalyst

A catalyst for the polymerisation of 1-olefins is disclosed, which comprises (1) a compound of Formula B wherein M is Fe[II], Fe[III], Co[I], Co[II], Co[III], Mn[I], Mn[II], Mn[III], Mn[IV], Ru[II], Ru[III] or Ru[IV]; X represents an atom or group covalently or ionically bonded to the transition metal M; T is the oxidation state of the transition metal M and b is the valency of the atom or group X; R, R, R, R, R, Rand Rare independently selected from hydrogen, halogen, hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl, heterohydrocarbyl or substituted heterohydrocarbyl; and when any two or more of R-Rare hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl, heterohydrocarbyl or substituted heterohydrocarbyl, said two or more can be linked to form one or more cyclic substituents; and (2) a further catalyst. Copolymers made using the catalyst having specific physical properties are also disclosed.

Polymerisation catalysts

A complex suitable for use as a catalyst in the polymerisation of olefins is disclosed, having the Formula (I) wherein M is a transition metal; X represents an atom or group covalently or ionically bonded to M; T is the oxidation state of M; b is the valency of the atom or group X; A to A are each independently N or P or CR, with the proviso that at least one but no more than two of them are independently CR; Y and Y are each independently CR&prime; or PR&prime;R&Prime;; Z is oxygen or NR , R and R and each R, each R&prime; and each R&Prime; are independently selected from hydrogen, halogen, hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl, heterohydrocarbyl, substituted heterohydrocarbyl or SiR where each R is independently selected from hydrogen, halogen, hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl, heterohydrocarbyl and substituted heterohydrocarbyl; but excluding those complexes having the formulae (1) and (2) where in both cases R and R are Me, R and R are 2, 4, 6-trimethylphenyl, M is Fe, T is II, X is Cl and b is 1

The present invention relates to transition metal complex compounds, to polymerization catalysts based thereon and to their use in the polymerization and copolymerization of olefins.

A process for the polymerization of olefins in a gas phase reactor operating in a non-condensed mode, in which the process is carried out in the presence of a catalyst system containing (a) a metallocene supported on a solid support and (b) an activator, and adding a lower alkane to the gas phase reactor.

Gas phase olefin polymerization process

A process for the polymerisation of olefins in the gas phase is carried out in the presence of a supported transition metal catalyst. The process involves a prepolymerisation step which may be performed in-situ and in particular the prepolymer may be prepared in the dry phase. The catalyst may for example comprise a constrained geometry transition metal complex supported on silica and used in the presence of an activator. The prepolymerisation step enables the activity of the catalyst to be improved.
