A mobile telephone of an advertiser broadcasts an advertisement over a wireless short range piconet link to a mobile telephone of a consumer. The advertisement is broadcast with a predetermined set of classification tags. The consumer phone has a filter set to accept only certain advertisements. When an advertisement of interest is received by the consumer phone it requests further details automatically via the piconet link and the advertiser phone provides the further details automatically via the piconet link. The consumer phone replies to the advertisement by sending a reply message to a broker device that changes (i.e., modifies or augments the reply message text) and communicates the changed reply message to the advertiser.

Brokering of information acquisition by devices in a wireless network

Dynamic generation of a networked information resource

A method is disclosed of transferring data to a first communications device having a first transceiver for communication at a first data rate over a long range, and a second transceiver for communication at a second, higher data rate over a short range. The method includes forming a co-ordinated short-range wireless network using the first communications device and at least one second communications device of a similar type. Communication is then initiated between the first communications device and said at least one second communications device to establish whether that second communications device has data required by the first communications device. The first communications device then communicates, upon the first communications device receiving confirmation that a second communications device has the required data, with a service provider using its first transceiver to request permission for the transfer of the required data from said communications device to the first communications device. Finally, the required data is transferred from said second communications device to the first communications device, following transmission by the service provider to the first communications device of authorisation.

A method of transferring high rate data between a first communications device () and a second communications device () is disclosed. The second communications device () has a first transceiver () for communication with the first communications device () at a first, low data rate over a long range, and a second transceiver () for communicating at a second, high data rate over a short range. The method comprises the steps of forming a coordinated short-range network (piconet) using the second communications device () and a plurality of other similar communications devices (), transferring a portion of said data to or from the first communications device () from or to each of said second communications device and said other communications devices using their first transceivers (), and transferring said data portions between said other communications devices and the second communications device using their second transceivers ().

Digital communication devices and digital communication methods are provided. In one aspect of the invention, a digital communication device includes storage circuitry; communication circuitry coupled with the storage circuitry and configured to communicate digital data and a plurality of digital formats externally of the digital communication device; and processing circuitry coupled with the communication circuitry and configured to operate in a receive mode and a send mode, wherein in the receive mode the processing circuitry is configured to select one of the data formats and in the send mode the processing circuitry is configured to send data formats which correspond to digital data stored within the storage circuitry.
