A method for integration of a portable electronic device (PED) with a flight deck display in some embodiments includes providing an onboard network coupled to a flight-deck-installed, multi-function display and coupling the PED to the onboard network. The method may also include receiving information from a PED hosted application in the PED, routing information through a gateway and/or a plurality of firewalls, and displaying information on the flight-deck-installed, multi-function display. In some embodiments, a pilot control interface is coupled to the PED through the onboard network, and a plurality of functions on the PED is controlled via the pilot control interface. An airplane in some embodiments includes a fuselage portion, a wing portion, and a system that carries out the method, possibly through use of computer readable storage medium with stored instructions.

Method and system for integration of portable devices with flight deck displays

A method for integrating an application into a flight deck includes receiving, by the flight deck, an identification of the application for integrating into the flight deck, wherein the application is running on a portable electronic device (PED) separate from the flight deck. The method also includes transmitting, by the flight deck, the identification of the application to the PED. The method additionally includes locating an application window corresponding to the application on a display of the PED and reading pixel data corresponding to the application window on the display of the PED. The method further includes transmitting the pixel data from the PED to the flight deck and integrating the application into the flight deck using the pixel data.

Method, system, apparatus, and computer program product for displaying weather data on a computer display screen. Weather data for use in a flight of an aircraft is received. The weather data is updated at a first rate. The weather data is separated into weather data layers for a plurality of ranges of altitude. Each weather data layer corresponds to a respective one of the plurality of ranges of altitude, and the weather data is separated at the first rate. Embodiments monitor for a selection of at least one of the weather data layers. The monitoring is performed periodically at a second rate, and the second rate is faster than the first rate. Weather data in the selected at least one of the weather data layers is prepared for display and the weather data is output for display on a display screen in the aircraft.

Method, system, apparatus, and computer program product for displaying weather data on a computer display screen. Received weather data can be parsed into weather data layers, based on ranges of altitude. The weather data can be separated into different weather products. A pilot can select products and altitude ranges for weather data to be displayed. Additional products and altitude ranges can be suggested to pilots based on detected weather hazards located outside of the pilot-selected products and altitude range. Additional products and altitude ranges can be automatically displayed on the display screen for severe weather hazards. A flight plan for the aircraft can be automatically recalculated to avoid a weather hazard. Parsing of the weather data can be performed at a first rate commensurate with a rate at which the weather data is received. Further processing based on pilot selections can occur at a second faster rate.

A system and method for handling information for use on a flight deck network on an aircraft. Information is received from a number of information sources. The number of information sources is not part of the flight deck network. The flight deck network is a certified network. It is determined whether the information is approved to be used on the flight deck network. A manner in which the information is allowed to be used on the flight deck network is also determined. Responsive to a determination that the information is approved to be used on the flight deck network, the information is sent to the flight deck network during operation of the aircraft.

Methods, systems, and computer-readable media are described herein for providing comparative vertical situation displays of multiple flight routes. According to embodiments presented herein, information regarding a currently active flight route of an aircraft and one or more proposed alternate flight routes is combined with airborne constraint data to display a comparative vertical situation display for each of the active route and/or the proposed routes. Each of the comparative vertical situation displays shows the vertical component of the corresponding flight route along with the vertical components of one or more airborne constraints along the corresponding flight route. The comparative vertical situation displays are concurrently shown on a display unit, allowing the flight crew of the aircraft or route planning personnel to compare the impact of the airborne constraints along the vertical component of each of the flight routes.

Comparative vertical situation displays

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for displaying forecast weather products in relation to a planned flight path of an air vehicle. The method, apparatus and computer program product may display a representation of future weather conditions along with the planned flight path of the air vehicle and a representation of the anticipated location of the air vehicle during the time period during which the future weather forecast is valid in order to provide context for the future weather information. Additionally, the method, apparatus and computer program product may display the weather information as well as information regarding the time period during which the weather information is valid in a graphical manner that is intuitive to the crew of the air vehicle so as not to distract or otherwise increase the workload upon the crew.

Method, apparatus and computer program product for displaying forecast weather products with actual and predicted ownship

A method identifies turbulence information from turbulence data generated by a set of remote aircraft based on a request to form identified turbulence information. The turbulence information is identified in response to the request received at an aircraft to view the turbulence information. The identified turbulence information is displayed on a display device in the aircraft.
