Pyrocatechol methylcarbamate is prepared by reacting pyrocatechol carbonate with methylamine in the presence of a tertiary amine and, preferably, a solvent.

Preparation of pyrocatechol methylcarbamate

Aromatic amines (anilines) are obtained directly or via the corresponding cycloaliphatic amines by an aminating/hydrogenating reaction of phenols with ammonia and hydrogen over a supported palladium catalyst which also contains elements from group 1b, 2b or 7b of the periodic table as well as iron, cobalt or nickel, as such or in the form of their compounds, and, preferably, an inorganic base, said catalysts also having dehydrogenating properties.

Preparation of aromatic amines

Fluorinated anthranilic acid and anthranilonitrile, and a novel process for their preparation by reacting 2,6-difluorobenzonitrile with ammonia and, if the acid is required, hydrolyzing the resulting 6-fluoroanthranilonitrile with a basic compound. The two novel end products are valuable intermediates for the preparation of compounds which are useful for controlling various animal pests and plant pests.

Preparation of fluorinated anthranilic acid and anthranilonitrile

Amidosulfonic acids are prepared by reacting ureas with oleum of a particular composition, first at a low temperature and then at a higher temperature, in the presence of an organic solvent. The products are starting materials for the preparation of dyes and pesticides.

Preparation of amidosulfonic acids

Sulfamyl halides are prepared by reacting sulfamic acids with halogen in the presence of phosphorus or of a phosphorus trihalide; the sulfamic acid can first be prepared from an isocyanate or urea and then be reacted as above in a one-vessel method. The compounds obtainable by the process of the invention are valuable starting materials for the preparation of crop protection agents, dyes and drugs.
