A mechanism in a sewing machine wherein two or more stitch forming instrumentalities may be individually actuated independent of all other stitch forming instrumentalities by a single actuator.

Single actuator control of multiple sewing instrumentalities

A machine forming stitches invisible on one work face, with curved needle, looper, work feed, and associated drive mechanisms arranged beneath the work. After convenient assembly of these mechanisms on bosses rising from a frame base, a frame cover is attached carrying a presser and a device for forming a work ridge in the needle path. A compartment extending across this machine front is formed within the frame to accommodate the needle thread supply and controls.

Two dimensional feed for monogram sewing machine

A method of operating a zig zag sewing machine to produce a visible pattern of zig zag stitches in a work fabric along a predetermined path to form a monogram within a defined field on the work fabric is initiated from a common starting location within the field. Initially, the needle bar is unlatched while longitudinal feeding takes place from that starting location so that no stitches are formed. This continues until a point of intersection is reached with the predetermined path. The needle bar is then latched and straight stitches, utilizing lateral needle feeding, are sewn along the predetermined path to a starting point for the monogram. Finally, zig zag stitches are formed along the path, covering the straight stitches and forming the monogram pattern.

Method for sewing a monogram pattern

A throat plate for a sewing machine having an above the bed feeding system, which throat plate provides for minimum drag on the work material. The throat plate is fashioned with a relief in which is situated a feed plate supported upon ball bearings for minimum friction, which feed plate is resiliently loaded to a central position. The throat plate is designed so that a presser foot of the above the bed feeding system will not impinge upon the movable feed plate and the feeding foot will impinge only upon the movable feed plate. Thus, work material captured between the feeding foot and the movable feed plate is not subjected to the usual drag from a stationary throat plate and, upon being released by the feeding foot, the movable feed plate returns to a starting position.

Throat plate for above the bed feed system

A sewing machine utilizing an intermittent upper feeding foot to feed work material in any direction. The upper feeding foot is carried internally of and swivels within a presser tube supporting on the end thereof a presser foot. Means are provided to alternate force on the presser foot during needle penetration and withdrawal, and on the feeding foot during feeding of a work material. During the period when force is applied to the presser foot, the upper feeding foot may be positioned by driving devices to an initial position, and may be driven to a final position after the force has alternated to the feeding foot. The driving devices may be responsive to information retained in intelligence record carriers in order to achieve the initial position and the final position. One driving device is connected by suitble linkage to a Y slide movable in a 'Y' direction and connected to the end of the rod opposite the feeding foot. A second driving device is connected by suitable linkage to a X slide movable in a 'X' direction, also connected to the end of the rod opposite the feeding foot and carried by the Y slide in a fashion to limit motion thereby to the 'X' direction.

Sewing machine with universal upper feed

A pneumatic needle threading assist is disclosed which has a thread collecting chamber in which, due to the air flow therethrough, thread having passed through the eye of a sewing needle, is therein deposited in a series of spiral loops limiting the amount of thread in the vacuum line and preventing the vacuum source from being contaminated with the thread.

Vacuum-type pneumatic needle threading assist

A needle threader assist which uses a needle threader having a conical opening for guiding thread through a bore thereof into the eye of a sewing needle supported by a sewing machine. Support means are provided with the needle threader which when moved to an operative position, unlatches the needle bar from its drive means and elevates it to an uppermost position and simultaneously moves the needle bar to a predetermined lateral position, permitting the bore of the needle threader to be readily located axially with the eye of the sewing needle.
