The present universal wearable computing device relates to a hearing assistance system, device, method, and apparatus that provide a discreet approach to user hearing assistance, without relying on a conventional hearing aid. The hearing assistance system and the requisite electronics may be incorporated into frames that also function as eyeglasses with earphone(s) that may be connected to the frame to assist user hearing. An earphone may be configured with minimal electronics, such that a power source enable sound transmissions to the ear, is provided by a connection to the frame of the eyeglasses. In another example, the earphone is configured without any electronics and sound is transmitted to the user/listener's ear(s) via a psychoacoustic system. The sound quality of the transmissions to the earphones may be optimized using a tuning/equalizer application operating from a computing device, such as an app on a mobile device. The tuning/equalizer application can be used by the user/listener to optimize volume input levels to the earphone(s). The hearing assistance system may also protect from damaging environmental noise, provide heightened hearing capabilities, collect and process physiological and physical measurements, and provide communication capabilities for interacting with other computing devices.

Hearing assistance systems configured to detect and provide protection to the user from harmful conditions

Hearing assistance system

A system method and apparatus for selectively recording on a VCR cassette, those news items of interest to a particular subscriber includes selecting video news items in accordance with previously entered user selected key word criteria. An advance data stream representing the text of each upcoming broadcast news item is provided in advance of the video broadcast of that news item. The advance data stream is searched for a match with any of the key word criteria previously entered by the subscriber. If a match between the stored user selected key word criteria and the advance data stream is found, the subscriber's VCR is enabled at the appropriate later time to record the desired news item. The VCR cassette contains those news items of interest to the particular subscriber, which the subscriber may watch at, any convenient later time.

Method and apparatus for VCR recording using key word selection of advance broadcast data

A retroactive recording device, having a main recording medium, temporarily stores past information in a memory. In particular, an audio tape recorder includes a solid state retroactive memory which is operated continuously to temporarily store a past time interval of digital audio information. To begin retroactive recording, all or a portion of the past information stored in the retroactive memory is transferred to the recording medium. After transferring the desired past information, recording is continued in real time. In one embodiment, where the recording medium is a magnetic audio tape, temporarily stored past information is transferred to the audio tape by operating the audio tape transport mechanism at a higher than normal speed so as to catch up to present time. In another embodiment, where the recording medium is a non-volatile memory, temporarily stored past audio information is transferred to the non-volatile memory, and the present recording is continued in real time.

Method and apparatus for retroactive recording using memory of past

An information distribution system provides information to a user, when the information corresponds to criteria individually selected by the user, and then charges the user only for the selected information thus provided. Encrypted information packages (IP's) are provided at the user site, via high and/or low density storage media and/or by broadcast transmission. The IP's selected by the user are decrypted and then printed or displayed for viewing by the user. The charges for the IP's thus displayed are accumulated within the user apparatus and periodically reported by telephone to the system's central accounting facility which issues encryption keys. The encryption keys, used to decrypt the IP's, are changed periodically. If the central accounting facility has not issued a new encryption key for a particular user station, the station is unable to retrieve information from the system when the key is changed.

Information distribution system

A projection cathode ray tube has a target that is mechanically adjustable by means external to the evacuated envelope. The target extends into the evacuated space and is mounted upon a bellows that forms part of the envelope. The target is moved relative to other optical elements within the envelope by means extending through the bellows to provide both axial and pivotal adjustment after the tube is sealed. This structure enables other optical components including image reflectors to be constructed integrally with the envelope, and also improves heat transfer between the target and the external space, permitting control of the target temperature.
