Disclosed sensors can include at least one resonator (in some embodiments, at least two resonators) and various other structures that may be formed in association with the resonators. The at least one resonator in embodiments can include a bottom electrode, a piezoelectric layer, and a top electrode, wherein the piezoelectric layer is positioned between the bottom electrode and the top electrode.

Sensors, methods of making and devices

Methods, devices, and systems for measuring vibration of an implanted elongate vibrating body coupled to a bone of the middle ear. One system includes an elongate vibratory body having a first and second piezoelectric body separated by a central vane. The piezoelectric bodies and central vane can be individually electrically coupleable to an implantable electronic device. The electronic device can have a switch, driving circuitry and sensing circuitry within. In normal use, the driving circuitry is coupled through the switch to drive both piezoelectric bodies causing the vibratory body to vibrate. In diagnostic use, one piezoelectric body is driven while the other piezoelectric body is sensed to detect changes in vibration indicative of decoupling or undesirable impedance of the vibratory body.

Implantable middle ear diagnostic transducer

The present disclosure includes methods, devices, and systems for cochlear implants. One method embodiment for cochlear implant signal processing includes processing a differential analog audio signal using amplitude modulation and pulse-width modulation. The method includes driving a transmission coil on an external unit of the cochlear implant with the pulse-width and amplitude modulated signal. The method also includes driving a reception coil on an internal unit of the cochlear implant with an output of the transmission coil.

Signal processing for cochlear implants

Embodiments of the invention provide an amplifier including a gain control circuit having a gain measurement circuit as part of a feedback loop. The gain measurement circuit generates an attenuated output signal, based on the gain of the amplifier circuit, which is used to generate a gain control signal. One amplifier includes a first attenuator enabling primary compression and a second attenuator as part of a gain measurement circuit. In some cases the attenuation factors of the first and second attenuators may be proportional or substantially the same. In some embodiments one or more output stages (e.g., differential amplifiers) are provided to generate the gain control signal based on differential combinations of an audio output, the attenuated output signal, and a primary threshold signal. A ratio of the gains of the two or more comparing amplifiers can set a primary compression ratio in some cases.

The present invention provides a solid-state rotational rate sensor device formed by a thin-film for generating an electrical voltage output proportional to the rate of rotational motion. The precision thin-film piezoelectric elements are configured and arranged on a semi-rigid structure to detect rotation (such as pitch, roll, and yaw) while rejecting spurious noise created by vibration, thermal gradients, and electro-magnetic interference.

Solid-state rotational rate sensor device and method

A compact, lightweight, cost effective, self-contained standby electronic navigation system with high signal-to-noise ratio and good dynamic stability is provided. The system includes a first sensor module for providing a plurality of rotational rate signals, a second sensor module for providing a plurality of compensation signals, and a microcontroller module for processing the rotational rate signals and the compensation signals and sending the signals to a display for displaying attitude information, directional information, and turn coordinate information on a single screen simultaneously. In one embodiment, the first sensor module includes a plurality of rotational sensors made of piezoelectric elements. The piezoelectric elements are made from a single sheet of piezoelectric material so that the elements possess uniform characteristics, and are arranged to reduce systematic drift and random noise normally present in a rotational rate sensor. The sensors can be configured on a single multi-sensor chip.

Piezoelectric rate sensor system and method

Micro-eletromechanical devices, substrate assemblies from which the devices can be manufactured, and methods to manufacture the devices are disclosed. The invention combines the advantages of conventional surface and bulk micromachining processes using a sacrificial layer to create an integrated micro-electromechanical system (MIEMS) technology that provides high performance, high yield, and manufacturing tolerance. The devices manufactured according to the present invention include, but are not limited to, pressure sensors, vibration sensors, accelerometers, gas or liquid pumps, flow sensor, resonant devices, and infrared detectors.
